Don Mueang, 9:30 AM, taxi situation?

Featured Replies

I will fly to DMK tomorrow (Tuesday).

Scheduled arrival is 9:30 AM, no baggage.

I need taxi down south 30 km to Bang Kho Laem district.

Google says 30 min using expressway now (11:30 AM).

I have an appointment at 11 AM.

How is the taxi situation/queues at DMK?

Riding the dead horse

AirAsia: return flight rescheduled for 30 min later.

Not a big headache in this direction fortunately.

In the last 5 days this flight was delayed every day.

And some massively more than 30 min.

How I look forward to my next road trip.

Car waiting for me.

I'd be wary of the cost more than anything! DM taxis are renowned for not having or not wanting to use their meter and charging extortionate prices! There's usually plenty around, but I'd recommend booking one with a reputable company to meet you on arrival.

Thanks for the hints.

Did an advance booking with Bolt, 369 Baht.

Bet I will have to pay expressway toll on top (not clear from the booking)?
Risk is 35 Baht for cancellation.
Otherwise swallow what price I can get.

Yes you will, less than 100.

Don't worry about the toll fee, that's a good price. I paid 700 Baht to Soi 4, a captive audience and in a bit of a hurry, so had to pay or I'd still be there !! I avoid DM airport now and only look for flights to Swampy, a better experience all round.

Depends on demand. The taxi rank can be slow at DMK, usually less than 20 minutes though.

Less than 500 plus tolls. There is a 50 baht airport fee though.

The few times I have used bolt, toll was included. Meter taxi not included.

No idea what got into me to select DMK.
BKK same distance of about 30 km and tons of transport options.

With no baggage an easy walk out to pre ordered taxi.

Baggage claim is unpredictable though.

In the past I flew only once to DMK.

Now rarely flying at all. 6 or 8 hours in the car still stress me less than all the hassle with flying domestic.

Should have checked more thoroughly beforehand.

Nonsense. Go to taxi area. Get ticket. Get in car.

DM is much quicker

Can Bolt pick you up outside the terminal?

Having lived in Bangkok I would say your timing is a tad optimistic. It may work but...be prepared. 9.30 is not rush hour per se but the malls open at 10 so both workers and customers....

Don't sweat the money. Just say yes.

Buy tang do anne. (phonetic for use express/tollway).

DMK expressway is about 75baht not the normal 50 (when I lived there) You will be leaving the DMK expressway and entering the other system. so will pay twice.

Put this in Bangkok forum for hopefully better attendance.

I have regular flights from and to DMK. Just follow the signs to the taxi area, during the last few months there was no waiting at all for me around noon or shortly after. All taxis have used their meter so far with a 50 Baht service fee. Plus expressway fees of course.

The few times I needed a ride from DMK mid-morning, the Grab driver took ages to get to the pickup zone as the traffic outside and into the 'conga line' was heavy. The third time, I saw a taxi turn on his 'for hire' sign just after he dropped his fare, vso I jumped into that and cancelled the Grab.

Call/email Mr T, his driver will greet you inside the terminal, your name on a card.

All fine in the end.

I missed the BOLT. My fault, no details.

So had the usual queue number and a driver instantly.

Meter on, 50 Baht express way toll. price for the 30 km was some 3xx. I was accompanied by my Thai stepdaughter. Driver from same district we live. Lively chat.

Whether this made a difference?

Car was so 50/50. AC either polar storm or spring breeze.

Traffic quite dense, partially slow but no endless standstill.

Made it well in time. 400 with extra tip.

Back flagging down another regular taxi. Meter! Expressway 50! Very good car. Had a 3D bird/satellite view navigator screen. Traffic like a breeze, fast (12:30 PM). Less than 300!? Some tip and 320.

Lucky or right company?

No trouble.

AirAsia return much behind schedule. Driving car into sundown. Total 12h for the day trip.

Neither.  A normal experience for 90%+ of the time.  Glad you made it!
