A Thai forensic medicine expert has raised concerns about the harmful effects of excessive porn consumption, which could lead to erectile dysfunction and strained relationships, particularly among young men. Associate Professor Dr. Weerasak Charuschaisri from Srinakharinwirot University shared his insights on Facebook, highlighting research that links heavy porn usage to sexual health issues. His post has triggered conversations about this often overlooked problem in Thai society.

Dr. Weerasak referenced a 2021 global study published in JMIR Public Health and Surveillance, which surveyed 3,419 men aged 18 to 35. The findings indicated that frequent porn viewers had a 70% higher risk of developing erectile dysfunction compared to those who watched infrequently. The study also associated excessive porn use with premature ejaculation and difficulty achieving orgasm.

According to Dr. Weerasak, overconsumption of porn overstimulates the brain, reducing the response to real-life sexual situations. Men who watch significant amounts of porn may struggle to feel aroused or react to actual partners. Beyond the physical consequences, he warned that severe porn use can heighten stress and anxiety, further complicating intimate relationships.

Symptoms of porn-related sexual dysfunction include a lack of interest in sex with a partner, challenges with ejaculation or maintaining arousal, and a compulsive need to watch porn that disrupts daily life. Dr. Weerasak advises a 90-day porn detox as a potential remedy, suggesting that this break allows the brain to reset and become more receptive to real-life stimuli.

The expert's warnings have sparked discussions online, with many thanking him for bringing attention to an issue often misunderstood in Thai culture. Experts underscore the importance of public education to address the implications of digital habits on mental and sexual well-being.

Key Takeaways

  • Excessive porn use may lead to erectile dysfunction and relationship issues.
  • A study found frequent viewers had a 70% higher risk of sexual dysfunction.
  • A 90-day porn detox is recommended to help restore sexual function.

I thought porn is illegal, and unavailable in Thailand.

This is not new, there have been several academic articles over the past few decades on how increased exposure to online porn decreases a males' sexual performance with a real living person.

Too many afternoons down Soi 6 will have the same effect

Whilst this is 'old news' internationally, it is still a very important message to keep getting out there

It is too easy to not realise the pretty much catastrophic effects excessive porn use can have on a man. As with so many human vices, education around the issue is sorely lacking. It's good to see the issue getting more airtime.

Online porn is harmful and can lead to ED, but you can take a walk down most Soi's and buy it,

Lets face it the known hot-spots around Thailand where scantily clad ladies telling everyone how handsome they are are boosting testosterone levels, so lets not mention that.

Apparently, members of parliament are exempt, so that must have been his target group for the study...

Only online...

It's a catch 22. Can't find any pussy so you start <deleted> daily. Then when the girl of your dreams appears you're have porn induced erectile dysfunction and she thinks your gay.  Would the doctor recommend prostitution as the solution?

So that's why I can't get a hard on. It's not because I'm 92. If only I had known earlier..😄

It's illegal to upload I believe. Since Prayut many porn sites have been blocked and recently under the Thaksin controlled government there has been a massive blocking of sites.

If tis is true... and that is a big if... Perhaps it would be a good thing for the Thai men... As Thai women have told me many many times over the years. They never achieve orgasms from a thai man. the thai man always finishes so fast. So having difficulty achieving orgasm wold mean the Thai man would stay stronger for longer allowing time for the Thai woman to have their orgasm also.

If the man is watching porn. His stress was already high. Most likely from not getting any sex to begin with. To watch porn and ejaculate would release stress.. This doctor is really quite stupid.

They do not say who the experts are. This OP and this doctors revelations seem more like political propaganda so they can justify their blocking more porn sites or all porn sites for their old age morals.

I agree excess p*** consumption is not good

what is his solution, increase ladyboy consumption?

Online porn may or may not harm the male tributes.

But definately much safer online. With all the STD's or other skin infections one can catch with prostitutes, it could be wise to think twice and that too, with the brain and not below.

We all know this, but still entertain those fine ladies in the local parlours or bars. Until an issue arises or worse.

So a little porn is ok.

But porn is addictive so a little leads to more and more.
