The draw's out for the first round of the Carling Cup !!

What team has yours drawn against ?

The cockle pickers from Morcambe are the visitors to our place.

Other ties include...

Macclesfield Town v Blackpool

Rochdale v Oldham

Bury v Burnley

Chester v Leeds

Dagenham & Redbridge v Reading (bit of a come down for Reading)

Come on you Daggers, especially against them but they're at their level now i suppose....

Rochdale v Oldham

That's a huge derby game. Tickets will be exchanging on the black market for huge sums. I reckon swapping pie, peas and gravy in a tray may secure a ticket. Definately, if you throw in a ferret :o

Just found this thread.

We (Swindon) could do well this year, our end of season form last season showed that the team is adjusting to Malpas's style of play, and with a couple of signings in key areas we could challenge for the play-offs. We are all dead excited by Anthony McManee as when at home he often tears the opposition full-backs a new arse-hole.

We've also landed a nice draw with QPR at home in the cup.

Swindon....Hmmm :D .....haven't your ads just been taken over / rescued ?

Cannot edit last post :o Should have read "haven't your lads just been taken over / rescued? "

Yeah, it was touch and go for a while and it looked as though we would go out of existence.

But our current owners now make us the richest club outside of the Prem, (Except for QPR). They are not going to throw money at us though, insstead they are going to run us as a proper business and build from there. :D

Who's the owner now? I thought it was a local business man ?

Andrew Fitton is head of a consortium of owners, whose combined wealth is in the region of 1 Billion sterling. :o . One of the is Jeremy wray, brother of Betfair co-founder Edward Wray, along with Andrew Black, another co-founder of betfair.

They are undecided yet what to do about the stadium, and are looking into it. Although it will involve either re-developing the County Ground or building a new stadium on another site.

When re-developing / building the stadium you could always ground share with Bristol City :o

Hi all, Any Rotherham United fans on here?

A good pre-season this year which means we will have another terrible season, even more so if the F.A decide to take 15-20 points off us before the season starts. But at least we are used to it after all these years.....

Eh up sithee, ah that gooin ?

I,m an owls fan but all the local teams in our area are of interest to me now, in mi old age

Anyway good timing you posting this as i,ve just been trying to locate a thread to put the latest and important news for your club on.

Quote from the Sheffield Star :-

New threat to Millers Date: 26 July 2008

By les payne

ROTHERHAM United owner Tony Stewart today moved to calm fans' fears and insisted that the club will start the new season after the Football League said last night their status was under threat.

The League have written to the club, still in administration, saying that "time is short" as they look to finalise their application for league membership ahead of the August 9 start date.

In the letter, the League inform them of various issues including those which could prevent their proposal to play at the Don Valley Stadium which all need clarification and to be resolved.

The League say: "It is imperative that the new company's application is presented to the (Football League) board prior to the start of the season and it is in the best possible shape.

"We want to reduce the risk that the board may raise further points which might prevent the issuing of a final decision before the start of the new season."

Stewart, who stepped in to rescue the club and has been financing it since the beginning of May, said things were under control and he was confident everything would be sorted out.

He said: " I pay all my bills, a long record in business shows that " and I am doing all in my power, and in a professional manner, to satisfy the demands.

This is a club in a much better shape, it has plans going forward and I am very optimistic that this will all be resolved satisfactorily.

"We have been communicating with the League, replying to their demands, they've had a massive file the size of an encyclopaedia and they keep coming back at us and now this.

"I was told it would not be easy when I took over but this club is in much better shape now and I am confident about its future. We are now a football club with direction, a vision and a future and we will come through all of this."

The League are still waiting to deal with Rotherham's inability to exit administration through a CVA. Only when Rotherham satisfy their demands will the League make a decision on a points deduction which could be 20 points.

Recently, the League asked the club to lodge a £750,000 security bond with the proviso they returned to play in Rotherham inside a four-year period whilst they have insisted that all football creditors must be repaid in full, including an outstanding debt to the Football Foundation Stadia Improvement Fund possibly over £1 million.

Rotherham play Barnsley at the Don Valley Stadium today (3pm).

Millers target Michael Boulding has joined Stuart McCall's Bradford City along with his brother Rory.

It should be a good game ( war ) and it should also attract a fair crowd as it,s a local derby

Goo on sithee, dip thi bread, lets hope things go smoothly for you and the Millers with no big injury problems to suffer from it.

Good luck for the coming season as well by the way.

Rotherham set to lose 17 points

Sheffield's Don Valley Stadium is due to be Rotherham's new home

Rotherham will have to start the new season with a deduction of 17 points if they agree to a set of criteria for a place in League Two next season.

The club has been unable to satisfy the normal conditions of Football League rules for exiting administration.

They must accept the punishment and agree not to challenge it by a deadline of midday this Friday in order to start the new season on Saturday.

Meanwhile the League will rule on the position of Bournemouth on Thursday.

The League's board considered applications from both clubs to retain their membership after they were each beset by financial difficulties.

Rotherham could not agree a Company Voluntary Arrangement with its creditors but the League decided under the 'exceptional circumstances' provisions of its insolvency rules to set the conditions for their League future.

In a statement, the League said it was imposing the punishment because it was the Millers' second insolvency in recent seasons.

They also said the club must return to Rotherham within four years after they were forced to leave the town and play home games at the Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield from the start of 2008/09.

" Why do they HAVE to return to Rotherham and do not get a choice, even if they are financially better off and have increased their support.

Don Valey is on the border of the 2 cities and some of it,s present supporters will live within the vicinity of the stadium.

If it,s purely because they are " Rotherham " and as such must play in the towns locality, then Grimsby Town for one example have been breaking the rules since they where formed, as they also play on the boundaries and are actually based in Cleethorpes ".

The 17-point deduction would put them second bottom of the League Two table above Luton, who had 30 points taken away for misconduct and for failing to satisfy the League's insolvency rules.

Bournemouth may face a similar punishment when the League consider their case.

The League statement added: "The Board is not yet satisfied with the viability of the new company's proposals and consquently it has been asked to reflect further on its position."

Unquote

<deleted> are they wanting to achieve by such a punishment.

Can anyone honestly imagine such a penalty on this scale would be applicable to the upper levels of the premier league.

Taking it into context, the lower you are down in the divisions the bigger the issue in relation to success and survival.

For most there isn,t a cat in hells chance of overcoming the relegation, let alone be in a position to bounce back.

Finacially the club have been left in an impossible position that has already had disasterous outcome the puts them in the present situation.

As for the well supported and fashionable P.L. clubs.

At most a relegation to the champions league is only a blip in relation to it,s effect.

Most would be back in the P.L. within a season and finacially they would be able to cushion themselves.

This is yet another example of one law for the chosen few while giving two fingers to the likes of Rotherham, who,s admin. and supporters are surely left bewildered, angry and saddened by it all.

They authorities need to take onboard the hypocrisy by which they govern and adjudicate it,s members along with the effects this has on proven hardcore lifelong supporters ( usually the owners come under this banner and are not doing it for purely commercial reasons ) who are loyal to their respective " unfashionable lower league clubs ", yet are treated like Dog Shit for their undying loyalty.

Its a sad sad day for Rotheham and all our supporters where ever they may be!!!!!

Totally agree with you marsh bags, the lower you are the more you get punished.

Anyone that knows the area knows that don valley is only 6 miles from the center of Rotherham, so its not like weve moved 85 miles up the motorway like another club did. Lets see what happens friday and lets hope its not RIP Rotherham United. :o
