"Financially troubled Bolton expect to receive further bad news in the next few days in the form of a winding-up petition from Revenue and Customs.Bolton owe around £600,000 in unpaid taxes. The Championship's bottom club did not pay their players in November and need £15m to get to the end of the season".

With money around in the Premier these days, wouldn't it be great if it was a mandate that all Premier clubs had to pay say 3M quid in to a fund to ne used to support the Football League clubs (I.e. loans to clubs like Bolton in such a financial situation) [sadly, it was the big 5 who didn't want a share of their money going to the 92 clubs that they threatened and instigated the Premier breakaway]

Although it would be a great shame if Bolton went out of existence, IMO it's not the responsibility of other clubs to keep them afloat. Bolton had time in the Prem and have had big TV money, they have obviously squandered it or been totally mis-managed, other clubs shouldn't have to pay for that. A Football Club is only really precious to the community it sits in and so if that community want to keep the club, I think it should be down to that community or the local council to help out.

As a Bolton fan, I agree that we have to clear our own mess up without getting handouts from the Premier League. The club punched above it's weight for 11 seasons and did it on the back of one man's generosity; Eddie Davies. Plenty others did the same; notably Blackburn and Fulham who both got promoted to the PL with us and both stayed the course with us for 11 seasons. The Championship is our natural home and sometimes we'll play at a higher level and sometimes at a lower level. Next season is too far away to contemplate seriously; the next week is more important. Sad days just now, but somewhat inevitable and no plan in place to deal with the fallout.

We need £15M to keep us afloat till the end of the season and we can't afford to pay the Inland Revenue £660K. Loans have to be paid back and there's no chance of that. We've been here before and bounced back, as have others. Our first game back in the PL was Leicester away and we hammered them 5-0. They were lucky to get nil. Leicester nosedived out of the PL and ended up in League 1 (Division 3 in old money). Look where they are now. Similar story over in sunny Moss Side. It means success later on is so much sweeter.

Great community spirit shown by the 3 Lancashire teams, great story.

For more than 3,000 Carlisle fans, a 170-mile round trip to Preston on Saturday was more than worthwhile. They saw their side beat Notts County 3-0 and move up to fifth in League Two.Preston North End's Deepdale home is one of three stadiums scheduled to host Carlisle 'home' fixtures while Brunton Park recovers from flood damage and the effects of Storm Desmond.Carlisle will play 'home' matches at Blackburn's Ewood Park and Blackpool's Bloomfield Road in January.About 600 supporters took up the offer of free coach travel to Preston, while Virgin Trains, the club's main sponsor, also offered free travel for 500 fans.

Nice idea to peel round the wall. but probably needs an Ozil, Eriksen, Fabregas type to get it over the wall with enough but not too much pace. Kicker would need to fake a direct shot on goal to keep the keeper on his line long enough. Tricky skill to hit a softer ball accurately when you've run hard at it.

^ps. The donkey kick was made illegal

Just downloaded this seasons rules (whopping 144 pages now) to read up on offside, and noticed on page 135 that a free kick can be taken by lifting the ball with 1 or 2 feet, so it's (now) legal

Carlisle and the area was the surprise star of a recent family trip to the UK which included days in both London and Edinburgh. ..we really enjoyed everything about it. On the taxi ride from the train station to the Premier Inn just past the football ground, I was asking the taxi driver about the (previous) flood. I was particularly interested as we'd luckily avoided the Thailand floods which had been expected to reach our mooban (the daily worry and stress of that episode). This article puts football in perspective and proves that the local football club is so much more than a business and is so important to the local community. Good luck to Carlisle in its recovery.

I'm just hoping that when we get to storm H we can have Hurricane Higgins; though not where I live wink.png . Great to see other clubs helping Carlisle in their time of need.

Southampton have signed QPR striker Charlie Austin in a deal reported to be worth £4m.The 26-year-old has passed a medical and agreed terms at St Mary's.

Risk or bargain. BARGAIN I reckon.

Why haven't Chelsea or Spurs bought him as cover? It beggars belief. I was very surprised that no-one bought him in the summer. What a snip!

Great bit of business by Southampton....QPR should have sold a bit earlier than this....not sure how much they've bought Washington for? seems they realize this year isn't going to result in promotion by not pushing the boat out to keep Austin.

What do you reckon to the Dean Holdsworth consortium taking over champers?

£20 million paid over 5 years. It's hardly Nelson Rockerfeller money. I wish him all the best, but fear the worst. The National League now looks closer than the Premier League. I doubt we'll stay up this season and the summer and next season will see big changes - downsizing is the current business term that will apply. His consortium looks like they want to stabilise the club and then get it sold on for a profit; to someone with real money.

Very strange!

Leyton Orient have removed player-manager Kevin Nolan from his managerial role, placing Andy Hessenthaler in charge of the first team.

Nolan, 33, has won seven of his 15 games since joining the O's in January.

Orient have taken one point from their last four games but remain two points off the League Two play-off places.

"We believe Kevin will be able to make a bigger impact without the distraction of managerial duties," Orient chief executive Alessandro Angelieri said.

Nolan became the youngest manager in the Football League when he signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with the east London club, who were relegated from League One last season.

Speaking after Saturday's 3-0 defeat at Barnet, Nolan told BBC Radio London his side were "playing with a fear" and "suffering from a lack of confidence".

The former Newcastle and West Ham midfielder has made 14 appearances for Orient, starting 12 times.

"Everyone at the club is fighting hard to make sure we reach the play-offs this season," Angelieri said in a statement on the club website.

"Whilst that aim remains within reach, we have decided that Kevin should focus entirely on his playing contribution until the end of the season. Andy will take charge of the first team in the interim."

Former Dover and Gillingham boss Hessenthaler, 50, becomes the seventh different man to take charge of the side since Italian businessman Francesco Becchetti bought the O's in the summer of 2014.

Earlier on Tuesday, BBC Radio Manchester reported Nolan is being considered for a management or coaching role at his former club Bolton Wanderers.

Nolan spent almost 10 years playing for Bolton, who parted company with boss Neil Lennon in March and have since been relegated from the Championship.

By all accounts, 3 candidates have been interviewed for the job as Neil Lennon's replacement and Nobby isn't one of them. I'd expect to see Phil Brown appointed as manager next week, possibly with Nolan as assistant. Whether we have a team worthy of the name next season remains to be seen. There are some good youngsters who need inspiration from the management team and I think Brown & Nolan could do that. I'd be happy if another former player - Mixu Paatelainen - got the job.

Burnley secured an immediate return to the Premier League by beating QPR.The Clarets began the game at Turf Moor knowing a win would be enough to confirm a top-two finish afterBrighton drew 1-1 with Derby earlier in the day.

Sean Dyche's side are only two points clear of Middlesbrough and Brighton, but cannot be overhauled by both as they face each other on the final day. While Boro and Brighton fight for the remaining automatic promotion spot on Saturday, Burnley will be crowned champions if they win at relegated Charlton.

Victory over QPR extended Burnley's unbeaten run in the league to 22 games, the longest sequence in the division this season, with their last Championship defeat coming at Hull on 26 December.

Consistency of selection is one of manager Dyche's biggest traits and he has followed that policy again in 2015-16, using only 25 players in the Championship this season.

Like Sean Dyche a lot. Pleased to see Burnley promoted.
