Is the White House demolition even legal?

So, it turns out that the guy who lied to us about bone spurs and hush money, and his Ukraine phone call and a hurricane and covid and the election, and his height and his weight, and his golf scores and his magically regenerated ear, also lied to us about preserving the East Wing.

I’m shocked, I tell you. how did we not this coming?

Yesterday, some reporter had the temerity to ask, ‘dude, what the crap?’ — and God’s Own Avatar On Earth was not pleased.

Reporter: “I just want a quick follow-up to that question. your response to people who say you haven’t been transparent enough about this—”

Donny: “I haven’t been transparent enough? really? I’ve shown this to everybody that would listen. third-rate reporters didn’t see it because they didn’t look. you’re a third-rate reporter. always have been.”

What a whiny crybaby. ‘everyone has to love my vulgar dance hall, and you’re a third-rate poopyhead if you don’t.’ Oh, boo hoo. Here’s what Donny calls ‘being transparent’: he held up a held up a drawing of some gaudy gold monstrosity — and then raged because every reporter didn’t immediately burst into tears and go ‘sir! thank you for your transparency. how do you do it? how do you hold up a drawing like no one thought possible? sir! sir!’

Here’s a free clue for the fluorescent tangerine. Flashing a rendering of some vulgar billionaire playground isn’t being ‘transparent.’

transparency means answering questions. and oh boy, do we have questions.

Let’s talk about the timing, because that’s pretty suspicious. Two days after eight million Americans told Donny to go <deleted> himself, demolition crews show up unannounced and start tearing the East Wing — before any plans or permits are submitted, and before any prep work is done at the site.

So, is this some kind of revenge thing? Did Donny work himself up in a Big Rage, and grab the phone and bark GET THIS THING DONE NOW into it? Sounds totally plausible, doesn’t it? because you know that Donny is an impulsive rage-baby who acts first and thinks never.

Which leads us to the next question: in the big rush to knock everything down, did anyone preserve any of that?  All the furnishings, all the portraits. all the historical artifacts. where are they now? Did anyone even bother to catalog any of it? Is there a list? Can we see it?

Did everything get bulldozed under, or thrown into the dumpster behind the White House? And if that dumpster is now full, where is Steve Bannon going to sleep tonight?

Here’s my biggest question: is Donny getting off on this? He absolutely is, isn’t he? He’s loving this, all our outrage and anguish.

Donny is a sadist and a bully. Tell me he isn’t enjoying all this destruction — and also our pained reaction to it. the demon-spawn child who used to bully his siblings is all grown up, and now he has an entire country to torment, and he is having the time of his life. Cruelty, as always, is the point.

By the way, is there a single elected Republican outraged by what’s going on? I haven’t heard of one. This is your House too, you cowards.

It's not legal, but he's doing it anyway.

It would sort of be like if you demolished your house and rebuilt it and told the building inspectors to go F themselves. Sadly, he will probably more or less get away with it. However, it appears he doesn't have the funds for this $250 million dollar boondoggle ballroom. What concerns me is that even if it goes to plan, it won't be done until AFTER the 2028 election and that's if he has no delays. I find it hard to believe he would put so much into this project if he wasn't planning on being the president post 2028, which of course is completely illegal. Things are going to absolutely explode in this country if he finds away to remain as president past this term. We'll know a lot more about his intentions during the 2026 midterms which I very much expect him to try and cheat because I think the Repubs are in for a drubbing. And to be clear, I am not a Dem but I think Trump is a disgusting POS.

Great place to entertain visiting heads of states.

More practical than Obama's basketball court, or a previous incumbents bowling alley.

As I understand it, the President is paying for it and not the taxpayer.

It will be a great legacy.

I'm hardly leftwing, but Hillary is correct on this, it's not his <deleted> house to do with whatever he wants. All presidents are required submit plans to various agencies to get approval to make changes to the White House. He just started tearing things down without any approval. Just another example of his lawlessness.

It will all have to be torn down when the prick is out of office and in prison (including his stupid monument to himself he's building) and restored to its original condition.

What makes you think there is no approval?

Which agencies are required to approve the changes?

Knowing Trump whatever agencies and lawful bodies were required for approval were ignored and bypassed. After all he's the king, so why should he need approval from the peasants?

I'd like to know the actual procedure that is required.

No need for emotional outbursts.

I am sitting down and I can tell you without hesitation that my life is very fulfilled, I am quite happy and live a wonderful life. But the nature of a discerning mind is such that there's always room for criticism and complaints, and Trump sure creates a large space for that, with this astonishing ignorance, world class hubris, juvenile emotional nature, and his incredibly reckless policy. He is a large toad.

The utter ignorance of the left is astounding. The left stupidly forgot to whine and complain same way it was not legal to put in a pool, a bowling alley, and change the entire interior.

"Is the White House demolition even legal?"

What difference, at this point, does it make?

No, they're either all scared of being "primaried" by him, or have realised that opposition is futile as the elected side of government has been effectively sidelined.

Per WaPo this AM:

“The president has been incredibly transparent,” press secretary Karoline Leavitt said at a briefing Thursday. “I would reject any notion otherwise when it comes to this ballroom project.”

Yes Ms. Leavitt. I don't believe it either.

How is it not legal?

As per Section 107 of the  actual law that pertains to building preservation and construction, The National Historic Preservation Act,  legal experts have stated that the White House, the US Supreme Court and the US Capitol, including their respective grounds, are exempt from the permit and review process.

Please  identify the laws which have been violated?

Perhaps the process of the project has not been as transparent as it should be or details were not shared, but what's the point? Much of the detail cannot be shared or put into the public domain for security reasons. Is it wise to have everyone aware of the blue prints? As I understand the former structure, it was obsolete with the electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems in need of replacement. There were insect infestations and rot of the wooden structure.  Remember that Washington DC was built over a wetland.  Nor was the structure able to handle the large number of people who attend the functions held in the east wing. What was the alternative? A renovation and expansion would have cost much more and taken much longer than a new build. Sometimes old buildings are not worth renovating. To those who are upset, what exactly should have been preserved? The old poor quality construction of 1949, or perhaps the asbestos cladding or lead pipes and paint?

The property is going to be rebuilt to a much higher quality of construction that takes into account  current fire codes and storm resistance and drainage. It will also have proper infrastructure  like sufficient toilets and communications, as well as safe catering facilities. I get it if you are  against the decor,  but what is the  basis for the upset over finally dealing with the east wing problem that has been known for the past 25 years?

I doubt the monstrosity will even be finished before President Newsom has it bulldozed down and dignity restored to the People's House in January 2029.

As we heard this week, "A President can do whatever he wants", and undoubtedly President Newsom will want to remove the eyesore of a "ballroom".

The goal is to make money anyway, so even if Trump is still alive in 2029 (doubtful), he'll have an additional $50 million in his pocket from the construction.

Estimates are that it will cost $300 million, and "donors" have already put up $350 million. Trump claims he'd make up the difference from his own pocket, but that's his typical bluster. He's aready $50 million in the black, and of course there is no way he'll return the "donations".
