My ex-landlord who still hasn't paid me back my deposit (court decision pending) is probably a dirty, thieving bugger.

 

I recall dribs and drabs about something dodgy down in Phuket. The whole building is suing him. I'll front the $$. He's a westerner.

 

How to get the dirt and possibly get immigration involved?

i doubt anyone who has rented half a dozen or more condos hasnt been stolen by land lord/lady in thailand,

i dont think you will get anywhere. dont hire a lawyer, or you will be tricked twice

They did interviews in the neighbourhood, went to her store, took photos of her and her mother and her house. On the basis of interviews with neighbours they did a report for me how she was supposedly of good character and still single.

 

Of course what they could not know is her online activity and her clandestine sex holidays with scores of foreign men

 

They charged 2000 dollars for this and it was completely useless.

I would have thought checking her online would be the first thing to do.

That's not what I meant. I meant HER online activity, her dating app profiles in fake names, her online messaging with other guys. It is not possible to "check" this online as even back then it was based on false names and was done in private. 

 

Of course had these detectives been able to access her mobile phone their report would have been rather different.

 

Thankfully, the truth always comes out, and she herself revealed what she was really like in due course. Obviously me checking her phone was also part of it.

It would be cheaper to just let it go.

Every apartment owner I've rented from comes up with an excuse to take my deposit.  My first and second apartment I cleaned so they were cleaner than when I arrived. They took my deposit. After that I just stopped cleaning the apartments and considered the meager amount of one month rent to be a cleaning deposit.  However, unlike many expats, I lived in the Thai section of town paying Thai prices for rent - cheap.

@Cameroni If you are rich and want to stop someone unscrupulous getting a hold on your assets, that may be understandable. But you are not, so then hiring a detective is just really sad.

You are not a superstar actor nor anything like that. Instead of trying to get a hold on young girls who are simply not attracted to you, you should try to find someone who actually likes you. My humble opinion of course.

@Prubangboy Don't worry, be happy. According to you, you have lots of money. Why create more stress and unpleasantness in your life by hating on someone? You need love, obviously.

you know what they say when your life depends on it? If not sure, you are sure!  😉 First lesson from my skydiving instructor. 

I know a lady in Udon who was married and hired one to follow her husband. 

In 3 days the detective had photos of him with 3 different girls.  They are divorced now.

If a court decision is pending - and  you have pretty good evidence - won't that do the job - or do you think he'll ignore the finding

If there's a court case pending leave it at that 

 

If that current case is not between him and  you

 

And he still  owes you money then I would go to see HIS embassy  and I'm not joking 

 

Even call the police in his home country and let him know by email

 

I called Scotland yard a few years ago on a farang who "accidentally" lost my luggage on arrival at his  little hotel guesthouse 

 

They called him in Thailand and he ended up paying compensation 

 

I went down this road  a few years ago over a small matter.
I believe the Thai word for the outcome is called " sia wela "

!

How does it work say in Bangkok if I'm paying a month bond / deposit on a apartment ?

Some of these on Pattaya want TWO months deposit 

Use real estate agents if renting !!

Your logic and thought process is skewed.

Await the court decision, that will dictate the next steps.

As a landlord in US, My understanding in Thailand is that the deposit is not returned sometimes.  The cause? Could be just about anything.  

My advice if you want the deposit back is take photos at move in and upon move out and fill out a "Rental Inspection Checklist"  check Internet
It will list the appliances, rooms, doors, electrical equipment, flooring, etc 
Usually has four ratings Poor, fair, good, excellent.
Both Landlord and renter sign.

Maybe ask to add a term in the contract.
The Landlord shall inspect the property for any potential damage and notify renter of any damage and the cost to repair to a similar condition as renter received the property.  Any remaining deposit will be returned within 2 weeks of lease end date.  This will set the expectation of both parties and if the Landlord is resistant and doesn't want to agree to terms by which the deposit is to be returned, it is a Strong indicator of the Landlords feelings and intention about returning the deposit.

 

Not sure it applies to Rental deposits but Google and read

I asked this in another thread and someone said yes. Isn't there a rental bureau in Thailand  that can intervene?
