Jomtien named 4th leading retire cheap destination in the world

There is far too much development now in Jomtien in terms of new Condos. For that reason alone I think it will become a less attractive place to live in the future. More congestion, more people and more anti-social behaviour and crime.

Sounds like the path many other countries and cities are on around the world.

At least Jomtien has some distractions now, it used to be suicidally dull many years ago.

It's better when you're drunk.

Actually, everyone is at fault in this accident. No one in their right mind should get on a motorbike in Thailand.

I lived in Jomtien last year (I also had a house at Khanom Beach). I rented a top floor, furnished apartment with sea-view balcony, about 200 metres from the beach for 7,000 THB/month. Very nice, but the smell of cannabis wafting up from all the Russian residents on the lower floors was not good for my lungs!

Apart from that, very nice, safe, close to amenities etc.

Even had roof access for my satellite antennas 🙂

There are plenty of reasons why some over 60’s are on a budget and prefer to live that way in Thailand rather than their home country.

To call such people “losers” is such a pathetically superior attitude.

I’m alright Jack.In my opinion with that snobby attitude, you are the loser pal.

It's warmer here in winter..... although they lose the heating allowance if from the UK.

Believe it, it's true.  Hipflat has a listing for a 32 sqm condo at Lumpini Park Beach in south Jomtien, right across the street from the beach, for 7000 baht.  Two swimming pools, a gym, half-court basketball, ping pong, sky lounge, etc.

Hit 7000 baht with the first project I tried; I'm sure there are lots of others.   As I've said many times, one of the best things about Greater Pattaya is the large variety of housing to rent or buy, in different, distinct areas, at all price points--including 7000 baht a month rentals in nice projects.

The smallest unit a studio there is 27 sq meters. Please try to get your facts straight.

Ref Vietnam visas: I'm curious. What are the aspects of the "better deal" that you stated US citizens get?

american citizens dont have to travel abroad to renew their visas, due to vietnam wanting to promote business with USA,

at least that was the case when i researched it many years ago

You might be talking about business visas but long ago Vietnam cracked down on people using business visas illegitimately.

That said, even though they target the retire abroad on a budget crowd, they have not actually done that. They're slow travelers.

So they don't put much value in long term visas for retirement.

Which explains why destinations in Vietnam are so high on their list.

In other words, their ranking is a complete joke. How many times do we see Vietnam pop up on top of those lists, a country that still doesn't even have any proper retirement visa.

Well I don't think it's a joke, but I agree Vietnam should not be on any retirement abroad list. The reason in their case is that they have a bias towards bopping all around during retirement as they do themselves. That's OK for some people especially younger retirees of course. Another example of their bias, they actively poo poo the Philippines SRRV visa and favor staying on tourist visas instead.

Never been my way either but the way our pathetic politicians throw millions at illegal immigrants who have come to our shores for a free lifetime’s holiday,I don’t count it as stealing now.

I suppose you mean the 5-year visa for Americans of Vietnamese descent or married to a Vietnamese citizen.

Well you of all people should know ......🤣 Cramped in your little bed sitter because you failed to work during your life

Don't you ever think as your laying in that room " not enough to swing a cat in"  that you failed at life ?

27 sqm isn't so bad actually. 75" TV, comfy recliner, comfy bed, doesn't seem so bad to me. Probably has a nice pool, I'd say he's doing OK.

I have a much larger space but 27 sure beats living in a car, tent, or bench back in the states for more money.

It’s as bad as canvey island U.K. boring as hell
