Police have dismantled a call centre gang operating out of a Chiang Mai villa worth 100 million baht, arresting 20 Chinese nationals involved in scams targeting citizens in China. The suspects were residing in the property under tourist and student visas, with several others escaping during the raid. Authorities seized over 100 mobile phones, numerous Chinese SIM cards and electronic devices used for fraudulent calls.

The operation, conducted on 30 October, was led by Pol Maj Gen Kritthaphon Yeesakorn, commander of Police Region 5, and Pol Maj Gen Thawatchai Phongwiwatanachai, deputy commander, with support from the cybercrime unit. Police executed a court-authorised search at 161/11 Moo 2, Don Kaew Subdistrict, Chiang Mai City, following reports that Chinese investors had rented the villa to house gang members and electronic equipment for a cross-border scam operation. During the raid, many suspects attempted to flee, resulting in one minor injury from a fall and multiple minor injuries.

The gang is connected to a previous July 2025 bust in Hang Dong District, where a similar Chinese call centre network was uncovered. The Chiang Mai villa had been rented for 120,000 baht per month and served as a base for targeting Chinese victims with scams involving parcel delivery and life insurance fraud. Each suspect reportedly earned between 100,000–200,000 baht per month while working from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Pol Maj Gen Kritthaphon stated that the suspects were brought from China using tourist and student visas and were employed to conduct the fraudulent operations. The police intend to coordinate with Chinese authorities to extend investigations and pursue additional suspects who remain at large. The operation highlights ongoing efforts by Thai authorities to tackle international cybercrime networks operating within the country.

HAHAHAHA.. now you know why BKK Ekkamai houses are renting for 200,000 or more monthly.

Maybe police should check those too ...

Just for fun I scanned the area to see if I could find that building. Bingo! Lots of nice houses in that whole general area.

Well, you got a laugh outta me!

Tough?  This and every other raid, including in Cambodia, Laos, and Philippines were all at the direction of China and using information provided by China.

What a surprise! Why doesn't Immi deny Chinese people a visa?

Changing Tactics?

"100 mobile phones, numerous Chinese SIM cards and electronic devices used for fraudulent calls."

Chinese Sim Cards.  Hopefully the Thai Sim Card requirements are starting to challenge and limit these Scam Call Centers.

"following reports that Chinese investors had rented the villa to house gang members and electronic equipment for a cross-border scam operation"

"The gang is connected to a previous July 2025 bust in Hang Dong District, where a similar Chinese call centre network was uncovered"

So Who owns the land the house is on?

My understanding Chinese Investors can't own land, maybe a land lease or business structure.

Appreciate all the Law Enforcements work in limiting the amount and effectiveness of all scammers and illegal call centers.

Time to go back to 30 day max tourist visa.

Thai cops playing Whack-A-Mole with Chinese scam artists... always good for a laugh.

They are entrenched here now in their gated communities, hi-rise condos, and luxury villas.

A new demographic that will be difficult - if not impossible to get rid of.

Just when the old farang expats start dying off of old age, new groups of undesirables pop up... Israelis, sub-Saharan Africans, and now Chinese.

Because the tourist count would go down.

OK, sure, add them as ingredients to the stinking gumbo.

Let me try to simplify it: China = Bad News. That's it in a nutshell.
