Well, the Bible says something else, even Christians tried to convert everything pagans did, making it their feast, I doubt they can convert Halloween

"The Bible views paganism as a rejection of the one true God, frequently condemning its practices as false worship and a source of moral corruption. The Old Testament commands Israel to separate from pagan nations, avoid their religious practices like idol worship and sorcery, and destroy their shrines. The New Testament acknowledges that non-believers may have a moral conscience but are still considered separated from God until they believe in Jesus Christ."

It's again just a fantasy, just like the Mardi Gras and other venues where people dress up as demons, ghouls and other entities, just for fun. Yes, some practice paganism and worship the devil, but they'll have a surprise when they pass on. I would never turn my back on God, but I do watch horror movies and like Halloween. I also like movies where the devil's followers are beaten by God's people. All Buddhists are idol worshipers, praying to a statue of a man. Jesus is the man.

  • Christmas not connected to a religion?

  • No, its connected to a chubby fella who dresses in Red and has a big white beard. Anyone who says otherwise is a loony.

I'm actually in Isaan with a girlfriend for 5 years in December. I left go go bars behind when I was a teenager. I preferred clubs where music was playing. I'm used to seeing assumptions on my posts so join the club.

I'm obviously pulling your leg here, but how do you feel buying all this crap, building installations just for fun?

And a pagan festival cleaned for no other purposes than gluttony

I'm sure there are many parties where people dress up and eat, but people do that every day everywhere anyway. I mainly look at Halloween as a festival for children, as do most others, although adults do celebrate dressing up. I never have.

Quite a few of the girls with the ghoulish make up on certainly look better than they do on a normal day. It's when they wash it off when it's truly horrific.

Say no more

Americans are projected to spend a record $13.1 billion on Halloween in 2025, which is an increase from the previous year and driven by higher prices and greater consumer participation. This spending is distributed across costumes, decorations, candy, and other activities, with a significant portion dedicated to candy and decorations, notes the National Retail Federation and other sources.

Yep, a fun time for millions, especially the children. Some of the costumes are home made, and you can see the creativity of people there.

And here I thought all the Yanks were poor, hungry, living in the streets & unhappy, lining the streets in protest.  You mean MSM is lying to us.   Say it's not so :cheesy:

I hand out candy to the local kids but do not get into the underlying belief structures.

He sits alone in a rented studio watching Inspector Frost, most likely with penis in one hand and a McVitie's digestive biscuit in the other.

How about you?  Do you keep track of your home-country holidays or do you just let them pass by unnoticed?

I had to choose both yes and no. I don´t celebrate them as we do in my home country. However, I do recognize some of them as Christmas, New Year and the National Day. For example, on Christmas, I am cooking for about 3 days before Christmas Day, and then I bring all the food to our shop and restaurant. During that day all Thai´s and foreigner who want, can come and try Swedish Christmas food. Have been doing it for more than 10 years, and amazingly the Thai´s really like the happening and the food. That´s a way for me to give back to the community and make people in this country as happy as they have made me for about 28 years.

You have to admit, the gap between the poor and the middle class and rich is mildly said impressive if you can say so. There is a gap between the classes.

My point to the core, is the hysterical celebration of Halloween, Christmas or any other marketing forced festival that makes us use to much for nothing. No value at all, just to feel connected just a few hours or the time it takes to plan the whole gig.

Seen from a conservative view, it is pure idiocy if that is right to say

Halloween isn't a world wide tradition for most countries except the  last decade other places in the world. Those who are not from USA older than 40, most likely never celebrated Halloween, and naturally sees it as an idiotic tradition rooted in  overconsumption and Greed,

It is a religious holiday outside the US, plenty of people observe it. Everyone just forgot the original reason.

Halloween wasn't even a thing in the UK until maybe the 1990's. Then it seemed to be picked up as a way of extorting chocolate and sweets by way of trick or treating. I'm not sure what the US version of a trick was, but in the UK you could expect to have an egg chucked at your windows.

I still try and give a nod to Christmas in Thailand but the family don't care much for it. They are waiting for the following week, New Year. That's when they hit their stride (and welcome a small present or two). I can look rather sad celebrating Christmas Day when all around are ignoring it. I crack on though.

Nonsense. I remember Halloween in England as a kid in 1960.  Ducking for apples and everything else. Granted not commercialised like it is today, but still celebrated.

And it's been celebrated for hundreds of years before that.

Not with kids going around people's houses begging for chocolate and sweets you don't.

That is what I was referring to.

Only Easter Friday

WHY?

If you are not a ''Çhristian' you may as well celebrate Black Friday, 28th November, which started with TX & radio ads last week, 01 Nov.

Halloween an American import to the UK, and America imported all saints day......:coffee1:
