Thailand's police chief, General Kittirat Panphet, defended the Royal Thai Police (RTP) against accusations of being a "large-scale criminal organisation” on November 6. These claims have gained traction from external critics, but Kittirat insists the RTP is dedicated to dismantling criminal networks. He emphasized that, despite criticisms, the majority of officers are committed to serving the public and ensuring safety.

Speaking at a policy update about tackling tech-based fraud and call centre scams, Kittirat acknowledged the presence of “bad apples” in the force. However, he highlighted the sacrifices made by officers, including health problems and physical injuries sustained in the line of duty. "They are accusing the entire Royal Thai Police of being a criminal organisation. It’s painful," he stated, urging critics to recognize the hard work of the dedicated officers.

The RTP is collaborating with international organizations like Interpol, the United Nations, and ASEAN police forces to combat international fraud and human trafficking. Kittirat mentioned efforts being concentrated on dismantling illegal Internet infrastructures used by scam networks. Additionally, he announced that new investigative units would address internal corruption, ensuring no officer is above the law.

Domestically, Kittirat outlined plans to improve border security through enhanced screening at immigration checkpoints. He confirmed operations to identify and dismantle illegal signal towers transmitting abroad, signifying a strong stance on maintaining Thailand's national security. The RTP remains committed to cooperating with foreign entities to bring fugitives to justice.

Addressing comments from former Deputy Police Chief Surachate Hakparn, Kittirat emphasized freedom of speech but insisted on accountability for public statements. Despite the wave of criticisms, he urged the media and public to focus on the positive contributions of the force, reiterating, "Our duty is to protect the public. We will not stop."

Key Takeaways

  • General Kittirat refutes claims the RTP operates as a criminal entity.
  • Efforts are underway to dismantle illegal networks and enhance security.
  • The RTP is collaborating with international bodies for justice and reforms.

Is this not something they claim every year?

Especially when someone outright calls them for what they are?

Extortion on the roads. Extortion in the jails to get out without jail or charges.

When the majority of the police force is out collecting money from people and businesses and not protecting people with the laws and court systems.

When the police make check points and offer you to pay them there without receipt so you are not ticketed.

When even the head police station allows people to use fake medical problems to avoid their prison sentence.

When even the top brass claims to be going after criminals but they themselves are criminals as well with scam centers or other illegal ventures.

When officers need to pay their superiors to get advanced..

These are the reasons people think and say the RTP is a large scale criminal organization.

No reason I mentioned were said without reading news that these things actually happen within the RTP throughout the year.

If the criminal behavior started at top positions then surely it has worked its way through to the rookie cop.

The problem lies in that because it has been happening for so long, it is considered normal behavior now rather than criminal.

The RTP at it's inception seems to have been created with a status quo from the government. We will NOT pay you a living wage, but you have a franchise, and the limit of your income is based solely on your own creativity and initiative, and you will always be protected. Is that not the case?

So how on Earth is that not considered corrupt and does anybody think that it's not a pyramid scheme where the money is funneled toward the top? And if so the very man who is desperately denying corruption is the one who is making the most, and we're talking about great fortunes here.

It hurts being called out publicly, doesn't it.

Well, you had decades to fix your image and become truly respectable, but you all chose not to go that hard route. Now, with public scrutiny on your every move, enabled by technology and social media, you cry a river. Well, boo hoo hoo, this is of your own making.

"the majority of officers are committed to serving the public "

IE The majority of Officers" not ALL!!

The Outcast Formerly Known as "The Golden Boy" of the RTP, sadly manipulated and coerced into being the Anti Christ when his plans offended more "important" people.

Sad day when big joke was ousted from rtp, he had a good guy in bad guys out policy which for some reason offended many foreigners, I liked that his policy also applied to immigration officers, they were all on their best behaviour when he was in charge. You knew exactly what was needed and each immigration office was plasterered in signs detailing how long each specific visa was to take, the bit I liked was the complaint shotline they used to have,,, funny as soon as he left the immigration division all those signs were quickly binned and we went back to looking for issues which can't be fixed unless you use an agent, which they just happen to have on speed dial

From the report 'Kittirat acknowledged the presence of "bad apples" in the force'.

No s**t Sherlock. When you have people in plod like Joe Ferrari, Johnny “ the enforcer” and Torsak Sukvimol get nicked for their corrupt activities it’s quite obvious that others were complicit in enabling them to operate. The attitude to be on the take filters all the way down to the local plod who ask for cash at road blocks.

Good luck trying to change it’s reputation when everybody knows the reality.
