The driver of the tour bus carrying students from Uttaradit province that overturned in Nakhon Sawan, has told police he heard an unusual noise from one of the wheels just before he lost control and veered off the road. The crash, which occurred at around 10.05 on 7 November 2025 near Ban Laem Yang intersection on Phitsanulok–Nakhon Sawan Road, left more than 20 students injured and prompted a large-scale emergency response.

Driver Mr. Prachuap, who was operating one of nine buses travelling from Uttaradit on an educational trip, said the group had stopped briefly in Phichit for a restroom break before resuming their journey. Shortly after departure, he reportedly heard a strange sound from a wheel and suspected a brake issue. Moments later, the wheel appeared to lock, causing him to swerve and overturn into a roadside ditch. He stated that he did everything possible to maintain control and minimise harm to the students.

Police from Banphot Phisai Station have since questioned the driver extensively. Preliminary tests showed no traces of alcohol or drugs in his system. Authorities from the Forensic Science Division and the Nakhon Sawan Transport Office are inspecting the bus to determine whether mechanical failure or maintenance issues were factors.

Witnesses described the crash as happening “very suddenly,” with residents rushing to help after hearing a loud noise as the bus toppled. They found several students injured, some with head wounds and abrasions and helped extract them from the vehicle before emergency services arrived.

Officials confirmed that all injured students are now in stable condition at Banphot Phisai Hospital. Local authorities, including the Nong Krat Subdistrict Administrative Organisation, arranged food, water and a waiting area for teachers and uninjured students until transport was arranged to return them home. Education officials in Uttaradit have been notified and are coordinating support for those affected.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing to establish the precise cause of the crash. Findings from mechanical inspections and driver statements will determine whether negligence or equipment failure played a role in the incident and if any charges are filed.

Key Takeaways

• The bus driver reported hearing a wheel malfunction moments before the crash in Nakhon Sawan.

• More than 20 students from Uttaradit were injured, all now in stable condition.

• Police found no signs of drugs or alcohol and are investigating possible brake or wheel failure.

It is always the vehicle that cause the problem, never the driver.... anyway it shows that many buses are outdated too old an badly maintained... I am wondering how they pass the check for the tax office every year, although that is not a real check up too. The mai pen rai attitude is killing everything in Thailand.. Nobody is responsible for anything and nobody cares

"Nobody is responsible for anything and nobody cares"

Yes......pretty much the opposite of where you came from.

That should be the emphasis for a TAT slogan aimed at Western tourists........."Thailand too much not same you country".

Enjoy your stay.

Police checks found no alcohol or drugs, what about intelligence ???

Bus convoys should be banned. When I was in the Brit Army and travelling in convoy, you'd do anything rather than pull out of the line. A wheel would have to fall off, or an engine explosion were about the only things that would make you pull over.

He might be partly right, a wheel problem  but it was the loose nut behind the STEERING  wheel.

To test for intelligence, first you need intelligent cops.

"Shortly after departure, he reportedly heard a strange sound from a wheel and suspected a brake issue," what sort of "strange" noise would brakes make....and if true, why not stop immediately or at least slow right down.

A bus being old or outdated is irrelevant. the reason is more likely that it was badly maintained  or illegally passed as safe to drive but even that would need to be discovered from an investigation of the vehicle and its Owner. In that way, One may conclude one way or the other whether the "evidence" of the driver is valid or not.

However, it is also more likely nobody here will ever learn what actually happened!
