Recommendation for Clinic in Jomtien for wound dressing

Featured Replies

I was bitten by a stray dog two days ago and have a wound on my leg (calf and shin). Had prompt attention immediately - cleaned, dressed, rabies and tetanus boosters. The clinic I used have recommended I have the wound cleaned and dressed every day without giving a timeframe when this can cease.

Tomorrow we are off to Jomtien for a week. I need to find a clinic that will be able to clean and dress the wound daily for at least a few days. Anyone have any recommendations? I will be staying Soi 9 near the beach. I will not have private transport for the sake of a week so will be relying on baht buses or similar. I don't really want to go to a hospital or into Pattaya itself - just a clinic as near as possible to where I am staying for the relatively simple task.

Thanks in advance.

We, implies that you have a partner. Get her to do it. You just need iodine/povidine mixed with a saline solution and a new dressing. There is no special skill needed. Go for a check up at the end of the week.

How did you manage to get bitten?

I have asked if anyone can recommend a clinic. I have not asked for your medical opinion. You know nothing about the extent of the wound. What has how I got bitten got to do with anything?

Nice attitude. You need a side of luck to go with that.

As an aside, I am writing from experience and had to go through the same treatment. But you do you.

Hi there.

There will not be a a need to go into Pattaya so don't worry about that.

There are three such casual clinics in the general vicinity of Thappraya Road near the Hanuman statue. I used the one close to Tappraya on Jomtien 2nd road for a minor surgery once with good results and frequent wound care visits.

These might be too far for you but doable by bus or Bolt taxi.

There is a a clinic that appears to specialize in blood work on Soi 5 that I'm assuming probably does wound care as well. Between Jomtien beach road and 2nd, the immigration soi.

Closer to you I don't know but I have another suggestion.

When you get there visit the closest pharmacies and and ask them if they will do it. Sounds weird but once I had a bloody wound while in Pattaya and dropped into a random pharmacy to buy bandage supplies and was offered full service wound care right on the spot.

Oh sorry, I just read you need shots as well.

In that case, forget the pharmacies.

You could try those clinics but if it was me for rabies shots I would visit a hospital. There is Jomtien Hospital on Sukhumwit. You'll need a taxi.

Thank you very much. Very helpful. It will be no problem getting to the top of Soi 9 and getting bus along to Thappraya Road where I can keep an eye out for a clinic. I also know there are two pharmacies pretty close to where we are staying.

It is quite a deep wound with wadding packed in at the moment so the DIY version isn't going to fly at the moment.

Thanks again.

I got the necessary shots during my initial treatment. I was already fully vaccinated but didn't want to take any chances so had the Tetanus and Rabies boosters.

Thanks

Did you kill the dog?

I tried to but I couldn't catch the f@$%er. I had a metal telescopic baton on me but the f@$%er crept up on me and took a chunk out of my leg.

Just look up government or public clinics in whatever area your in.  Heck, most villages have a small clinic that can do wound dressings.

rabies and tetanus boosters.

sorry, this is not to answer your question.

I just have another question. Should we all get tetanus and rabies shots in case ? ie before being bitten? Like how often do people get these booster shots? Every couple of years?

Before this incident, my most recent Tetanus shot covered me for 10 years (that was 7 years ago). However, it is recommended that if you receive a bite or a wound and your previous jab was more than 5 years ago you would be best off getting a booster.

My latest Rabies vaccination supposedly provides life time protection. However, it is recommended that if you do receive a bite (and particularly if it's a stray) that you get a further booster.

I may well have been ok but I wasn't taking any chances.
