November 14, 2025Nov 14 kEY TAKEAWAY: A 2pm to 5pm alcohol sales ban was intended to prevent Civil Servants from drinking during office hours - so they only "work" 3 hours a day! That explains a lot!

Allowing sales to 4 am is madness, for many reasons . . close at 1 am please. disagree. When on holiday and staying out late or buying things to take home should be up to the buyer. I do not need somebody telling me what to buy and when about anything
November 14, 2025Nov 14 So, the truth finally comes out. Before, it was a mystery to me and most others that banning alcohol sales between 2 and 5 PM made no sense, but now we are told that the ban was put in place to prevent their own government civil servants from drinking on lunch break. WTF! So, you penalize the entire country just because a small percentage of the population can't control themselves. What a joke! How about just penalizing individual civil servants for their bad behavior and leave the rest of the population alone. Put them on notice and record the offense in their permanent records, and after 3 strikes they are out of a job, or they are docked on their paychecks or prevented from having a raise the following year. That will put a stop to all of that nonsense.

I have been going there since 2004, made 15 trips and I do not recall ever seeing any limits enforced ever. But I have not been since 2019. I am a lightweight drinker, very lightweight so it doesn't affect me much either way at all.
November 14, 2025Nov 14 The TACO nickname was clearly invented in Thailand, and the Americans only copied it for Trump.
November 14, 2025Nov 14 Thailand observers around the world, repeat after me: Flip. Flop. Flip. Flop. To be continued tomorrow...
November 14, 2025Nov 14 Make sense. On the other hand, it shows how weak and unreliable any measure they wish to implement (good or bad) are just rarely enforced properly or long enough to have any effect. They will never go anywhere with a half-assed approach to everything.

As for wanting "everything their own way" what's wrong with wanting common sense. 11:00 am opening and being closed between 2-5 pm is anything but common sense and based on flawed logic. BTW why what is the logic behind the 11 am opening time. The 2-5 is definitelty flawed logic but I can't remember seeing or knowing why it's 11 am. I have lived here for 17 years and the only problem I have had buying a box of beer during the day is the shop being out of stock. Archa is not that popular with the Thais.

On a Sunday, only premises with accommodation could get a 7 day licence to serve travellers. Where I lived they used to run a bus on a Sunday evening to the nearest hotel across the county border.

The 2 till 5 restriction on alcohol sales was introduced following the 1971 coup. Despite what you may want to imply, it has not been changed since.

Deputy Prime Minister Sophon Zarum, who chaired the committee’s second meeting at Government House on 13 November, said the rule is now outdated. “Government officials no longer drink in the afternoon. Well that's very telling, they really never did care about anyone who didn't work for them directly.

That was the case up to about 2017 I think. It was then changed. If you bought more than 10 litres it was allowed. 2 boxes of big bottles qualified

Of course you would be inconvenienced by having to visit 2 premises.
November 14, 2025Nov 14 OK So now can buy and drink between 2pm and 5pm, so its continuous from 11am BUT one cannot buy alcohol in supermarkets before 11am (Makro excepted 10 litres with an alcohol sales licence) Many many folk want to buy alcohol to take home early morning when doing their shopping, but must return at 11am to restock for home use!

Apart from that there is one wholesaler near me and they only have Chang Beer and Thai spirits. You arguing that I shoud go to a wholesaler is ridiculous.

Agree. I have posted this common sense view on here many times. Sadly there are some on here that will find argument to what you say.

It is not 100% alcohol-free in the strictest sense, but this trace amount is comparable to or lower than the levels found in some common food products like bread, bakery items, or fruit juices, due to natural fermentation of ingredients. So using 7/11 logic it also means they can not sell bread etc between 2 to 5pm. 🤣
November 14, 2025Nov 14 It's at trap, they will sell but other agency will fine you 10.000 Baht if you drink it.
