November 17, 2025Nov 17 The problems are these: On my left foot I managed to massively stub my middle toe about 4 months ago against a heavy, oak table leg. I went to the local doctor in Laos who said he didn't think that the bone was broken, and the swelling would subside in a week or 2. But the swelling hasn't gone down at all. The toe is not painful (I walk about 10 km every day), but the continual swelling makes this toe twice the width of my other toes. The toe is not cold nor hot, but there is a small amount of tingling right at the end of that toe. On my right foot, the bunion is NOT the problem, but it has created the problem! This large bunion has been good friends with me for about 30 years - it's not painful and I do have a foot strap that I use at night to pull it away from my second toe, which is where the problem is. The big toe has pressed against the second toe in previous years and now that toe is rather deformed and there is also a hard flat bone growth at the base of that toe and spreading across to the next toe. My concern is that although these feet issues don't cause me any problems right now, they may get worst as I age (66 years now), and could eventually make it painful or difficult to walk. They may be some proactive action that I can take now. I have to visit Bangkok in a week or so. Is there a recommended podiatrist who could take a look at my ugly feet, diagnose why my left foot toe is still swollen, and suggest solutions to my deformed second toe on my right foot?

I don't know if you will find the right one to help you. In case you want to have a personal recommendation: Dr. Tanawat (clinic) in Chiangmai. He is a specialist working in many hospitals (Bangkok Hospital, Sriphat)

I do have custom insoles which held to keep the bunion big toe from pressing on the next toe, but the damage and deformation is already done to that toe.
November 17, 2025Nov 17 Not sure Bangkok has qualified podiatrists (a bit like they don't have a proper government registery of chiropracters). I was looking for a podiatrist recently too, and those hospitals that claimed they had them, seemed a bit vague. So I ended up with an orthapedic doctor for my issue. They're not foot specialists but it's all part of the skeletal system I guess so they have some knowledge.

It's connected all the way from the feet to your head. I would see a physical therapist and have him assess your stance. Honestly it's probably too late to fully correct this but at lease you can be conscious of it so to avoid any serious injury. That poor toe looks really uncomfortable too. I wonder if shoes like this would feel good.
