The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and Samut Prakan authorities have declared parts of the city and neighbouring districts as temporary rabies outbreak zones, effective from 27 November to 26 December 2025. Residents in the affected areas are advised to avoid contact with stray animals and seek immediate medical care if bitten or exposed.

The announcement by Mr. Saiyan Pongkhan, Acting Director of Livestock Area 3, follows the detection of rabies in animals in Khlong Sam Prawet, Lat Krabang district, Bangkok. The outbreak zone covers a 5-kilometre radius extending north to Saen Saep, Min Buri, Bangkok, south to Rachathewa, Bang Phli, and Sisa Chorakhe Noi, Bang Sao Thong, Samut Prakan, west to Khlong Song Ton Nun and Lat Krabang, Bangkok, and east to Thap Yao, Lat Krabang, Bangkok.

Authorities emphasised the urgency of avoiding contact with strays and suspected rabid animals. Anyone bitten or scratched is instructed to wash the wound with soap and seek post-exposure rabies vaccination immediately. Residents are also asked to report any dogs or cats displaying symptoms such as restlessness, aggression, stiff posture, excessive salivation, or hanging tongue, or animals found dead, by calling the Dog Control and Shelter Group in Prawet at 0-2328-7460.

Experts warn that rabies remains a fatal disease if untreated, and rapid reporting and vaccination are critical to prevent human infections developing. Local communities are being urged to stay alert, monitor pets and cooperate with authorities to contain the outbreak.

Amarin reported that the temporary outbreak zone will remain in effect until 26 December 2025, with continued surveillance and control measures. Authorities plan to monitor animals closely and may extend or adjust the zone if new cases are detected.

...and still strays are allowed to roam the streets and sois at a grave risk to the public. Hopefully, at some point, authorities will get a grip and actually do something to stop this unneccesary and life threatening disease.

Everyone with 30-baht healthcare should receive the standard three-dose rabies vax and booster at least every two years.

They won't because Thailand is a buddhist country and  you'll end up in jail if you harm any dog , sad but true .

So Bangkok recently had mandatory rabies vaccinations and now there is an outbreak.

Mmmm.

Maybe authorities should start removing stray animals and minimise all risks to the public?

This can't be true. Bangkok is so safe!

Not sad  Kindness to animals is sadly lacking throughout most of humanity. There should be a programme in all villllages, towns and cities for the vaccination and neutering of all stray cats and dogs, and the vaccination of all pet cats and dogs. The cost would be minimal compared to other wasted projects.

Yes indeed - eaten! (but not as many as in Vietnam).

Fortunately Cambodia does not have a soi dog problem like Thailnd has.

Yes, dogs are eaten in Cambodia, though it is not widespread and consumption is declining, according to Humane World for Animals and the BBC. The trade is associated with cruelty, and some areas like Siem Reap province have banned the sale and consumption of dog meat, though the practice persists in other regions.

If you want to blame someone, look in the right direction.

Action was being taken, until the do gooders from the west stuck their noses in.
