Depositing cash in a province other than where A/C was opened

Featured Replies

Hi. I have an active Bangkok Bank account opened in Chiang Rai. I plan to deposit some cash into it when I'm in Bangkok. Can I do it at a Bangkok Bank cash deposit machine or over the counter at any branch in Bangkok? I remember there used to be a fee or some rule for depositing money into your own account in a province other than where you opened it but this was a long time ago. Can anyone advise on this? Thanks in advance.

It's as you said: you can do it, but a fee applies.

Just checked for Kasikorn and the result is consistent with what I remember: 0.1% fee.

At the time I deposited I was not aware of the fee. Paid 340 for 340k.

Thanks. Does this mean I need to make the deposit over the counter as they need to calculate the fee, and not at an ATM with a cash deposit facility?

As far as I know the fee is deducted from the received amount.

You can use a cash deposit machine, it will show you the fee and deduct it from the amount you've deposited.

And you have to use the ATM card (PIN) for the account of course.

Formerly it was possible to deposit anonymously by specifing the account number.

You can actually still deposit money into other people's accounts as well, but as you said, it doesn't work anonymously anymore, you need to authenticate the transaction with your ATM card and PIN.

Still blows my mind, they are still charging fees to deposit or access your own money out of province.  Use to even be out of Amphur years back, and wonder if that still applies.  Why I only use banks to receive from overseas, and nothing else.

Why I never used banks when living in USA.  Fees  to use your own money ... don't think so.

I don't think that  is the case using the apps or online - as far as I know anyhow.

Cash deposit out of region probably always a fee.

Cash withdrawal at ATM with card out of region may or may not cost a fee (10 / 15).

Seems to differ between banks.

Cardless (app) cash withdrawal usually free nationwide (at own banks ATM).

Instant electronic money transfer between accounts at all major banks is free.

Within region: cash withdrawal at any major banks ATM is free up to 4 times a  calendar month.

So no reason to join a queue if there is another ATM available.

(don't tell anybody 😊)

Major banks: member of cash pool. Few foreigners will have accounts at a bank that is not included.

Kasikorn ..    15 baht to withdraw cash out of province,  and 20 baht to deposit ( stick it in , and break it off )

for what it's worth .   Wise charges  17 baht per transaction using their card while shopping .  I keep that loaded and use it at Villa Mkt, Lotus or any other shop that accepts "Visa Cards"
