What is wrong with taking advantage of price discounts?

I definitely even after more than 30 years didn't have to move back to my home country because I ran out of funds.

  • Someone should tell the retailers. Everything seems to be ever more expensive.

  • The meaning of the word ' plummet ' is clearly not understood by some people.

  • I can't think of one item of grocery that has got cheaper in the last two years!

Don't you eat? My last grocery bill was 1700 baht a few months ago

People think prices are  rising , not true

whats true is pschyological

less wealth, less money in pocket  this apply for foreigners as well for thais

the feeling of inflation is higher

but its not,its the less purchasingpower in the pocket

when i see all this lowspenders and poor farangs arriving in mass of the last years , i know why feeling is so high

Won't last as due to the over strong Thai Bhat, foreigners who come are spending much less. Because the prices in the malls have not increased and the cheating continues in popular tourist towns and the restaurants that usually love to overcharge if they see foreigners.

That's why 'tumbling' was used as an alternative........

Nice words but everybody is complaining that everything is getting more and more expensive almost every week.. And in the article too it is written that fresh vegetables and single dish meals are up 10 to 20%... That is a lot..and in the supermarkets we all see that things are getting up. Maybe they calculate that the 50/50 has an impact and therefor the inflation is dropping, but that is not the reality

Agreed....

I like the way you pitch your "rooms" to a potential tenant. Is it a successful method?

Everywhere I go I see prices plummeting. I'm always shocked at how much prices are coming down on a daily basis, and I just can't believe how much more product I'm getting for my money and how much cheaper things are than they were just a few years ago. Ha!

Regarding some foods imported I have seen some grocery prices actually go on small price or quantity  discounts when I would have expected increases especially from US imports.

I speculate with some imports that the foreign exporters (especially US) are experiencing backlog of export inventory normally sent to other countries and diverted to Thailand.

When i am out shopping i always looks for any good deals

Like the Big C always deals on eggs cheap yes the price of fresh pork and  chicken more expensive but cheaper than the local markets according to the wife 😅

The slowing down or reduction of the rate of inflation (disinflation) does not make things cheaper - prices do not "plummet", they just increase in price at a slower rate.

Inflation is the rise in prices of goods and services, deflation is the decrease in prices, and disinflation is a slowdown in the rate of inflation. :coffee1:

Yes, the report uses terms in such a vague way that it's difficult to tell what is being said. Are prices actually falling (deflation), or has inflation fallen (prices still rising, but less sharply)?

Looking ahead, 2026 is expected to see inflation between 0-1.0%

That seems totally unbelievable, but the Thai government seems to consistently post questionably low figures for inflation, just as it does for unemployment.

The meaning of 'falling inflation rates' is also clearly not understood, even by many of the people paid to write about it. It means that prices are increasing more slowly than before. It does not mean that prices are falling. They won't, except for special measures like with energy.

As everyone has noted, prices are still increasing.

I don't believe any of the Thai government statistics on the economy.

The Commerce Ministry reported a 0.49% year-on-year fall in the consumer price index (...)

In what alternate universe? 😆

Pricesin Thailand droping across the board, i see this already a year.,

yes my coffee is up 10 baht and 5 baht more for som o  , fresh fruit and veg and  some rests and bars

but when look broader : rents and Property prices are on decline, energy , Pork meet 99 baht i see last week , a lot of crocerys down, and i can go on

depend how you live , deflation in THB can be up to 5-7% , or up to 5-7% , mainly for the poor  due to use of income  for  veg, foodweight heavy on income

HUH??? Again please.

...and none of this spin makes any sense because the Thai Baht keeps getting stronger (which should make almost all imports cheaper for manufacturers and retailers of 'anything. Exporting Thai products get more expensive for buyers of course').  Today the THB is heading towards 31 to USD. So, BoT, tell us again whom you are working for? In last ten years, the THB has strengthened 11 percent against USD. Why?

US dollar has devalued against  many currencies. That makes the Thai Bht look stronger without moving.

always, profits down prices up

Inflation is being measure by prices, I suppose by a basket taken from certain retail stores.

If some people say prices have risen, could there be some price gouging going on?

I don't know the 7/11 franchisee rules here but our local has gone rogue, the price stickers look different and he's added 5 or 12 baht to everything.

His competition is a large new corporate store about 3 mins walk away, their pricing has not changed all year.
