Yah, same here. It doesn't really bother me. I've even stopped running the air purifiers. Didn't notice much difference.

Good point about less people, an upside to everything.

You need a PM2.5 / AQI meter, as there's a big difference when running our purifiers.  PM2.5 to healthy levels of <6 when purifiers on vs PM2.5 of 10-20-30+ when purifier off.

AQI of <10 vs 50-100 when purifiers running.

Depends on how bad it gets. Leaving for a month is hard, don't know where to go even.   One thing for certain is I will 100% leave during Songkran. Last year they pissed me off for the last

  • Nope.  We've never felt the need to leave.  It doesn't make my eyes burn or cause me any noticeable breathing issues. It does LOOK awful when we look into the distance across the valley, but it doesn'

To repel mosquitoes, why else?

@Cameroni & whoever.   I've been here 25 yrs, more than 1/3 of my adult life, so yes, I take some precautions about my health.   Maybe this will help you understand why we run the air purifiers to keep indoor air in the healthy levels ...

Yes, I'm leaving during burning season as the heat and pollution are maddening that time of year. I just booked my flight from Bangkok To Rio will return early May.

Kind of impressed with TH, as usually mid-ish Dec is crap by now ...

Please keep in mind that December is unusually wet and rainy overall. The pollution indicators were much higher in the first week of this month.

Excuse me. December is well into the cool dry season. The little rain we have gotten is not normal. Where are you getting this information?

Depending where you are in south Thailand. North of Bangkok hardly rains anything

Agreed,  it depends on where you are. I was on a motorbike trip during the last few days and unusual for this season there were some unpleasant rains during that time. That might of course be localized downpours. Anyway, the air was cleaner after that. I should probably have used different wording in my previous comment.

Even if the rains are not heavy they clean the air pollution. I probably should have used a bit different words in my previous comment.

That they do and always have. Yes perhaps that would have been much better. Thanks for the clarification though.

I LOVE Burning Season.

This has been stated above, too.

a. When the smoke is at its heaviest, I feel more at peace inside my home with the ACs going and the air purifiers humming away.

b. I don't need to go out.

c. But, during the smokiest days, I LOVE to go out.  Going out with my mask makes me realize that my purchase of the 3M masks, in bulk, was not a waste of money, 4 years ago.

d.   I can still exercise outside as much as I like.  The mask turns black, but the lungs are not affected (much).

e.  I LOVE the fact that far fewer people/tourists are out and about during the smoking season.

f.  This year, I think the smoke might not be that bad, due to all the rain we have had in recent months which cuts down on the burning of stubble, etc, in the mountains.

Wait and see, but I LOVE the burning season, just the same.

Looking Forward to it...

Rained the other day, so knocked down the bit of smog we had.  Short vid, and can see the hills clearly, though late afternoon, so in their own shadow.   West hills 10 ish kms away, with furthest, highest peak actually 20+ kms away.   If you can tell where vid is slow mo, that's the 3 hills at Ao Prachuap.   Wasn't high enough to see the surf, as way too windy up there.

I live in SE Rayong, has not rained at my location once this month, drier than a popcorn fart here.
