That 'determined yet sincere' look on Trump's face is quite amusing, but not as much as the 'noble' look he affects.

What's the difference between Trump and a Thai politics? The corruption in the USA out in the open visible for any one with more than a handful of brain cells. FDJT.

Could it be that he lies?

Does this pigeon have a name?  Walter, perhaps?

Of course, I am very unhappy about any kind of armed conflict between Thailand and Cambodia.

Of course I support any sincere international efforts to try to mediate between the two sides towards peace.

HOWEVER, with Trump there are some big problems.

Trump has ALREADY taken credit for "ending" this local what he calls a war.

He accomplished this non-accomplishment by using big stick TARIFF TRADE WAR threats against both sides.

In reality, a president of the U.S. imposing tariffs without congress is ILLEGAL.

Now he is trying that game again.

Some might say, well that's OK, the threats of illegally using increased tariffs is for a good cause -- PEACE.

But people should look at this another way.

Talking about Thailand specifically, Trump doing this is stepping on the sovereignty of Thailand.

Whether the Thais are right about this conflict or not (frankly the issues are too arcane for me to have an informed opinion about that) doing that invites HOSTILITY by both the government of Thailand and proud nationalist Thai people.

It pushes Thailand away from the USA long term and towards China.

To what effect? So that Trump can amass more "wins" for the real Peace Prize that he's never going to win anyway.

If fits a disgusting pattern by Trump that is without any doubt going to make America less great, less successful, and less wealthy -- trashing traditional allies.

Probably worth a new topic -- but personally I have noticed an increase of negative reactions from Thais upon learning my nationality. I don't know if that is anecdotal or related to Trump's bullying actions.

Anecdotal, and highly unlikely.

What happend to all the Trump loyalist, magaites and sycophants of the great Orange leader that used to sing his praises and bow to his superior intelect  and business accumin on these pages ad nauseam.  Have they gone back to the USA for a better life where everything is down, down.down including the morale of the countries citizens and the relations with all of the allies and trade partners the USA once had.

Maybe 🇨🇦 should worry....

Maybe he's interested in who the contract goes to for offshore oil exploration in the Andaman Sea?

That would seem to align with his desires for Venezuela.

Thank God Trump is stepping in to talk some sense into these poor excuses for leaders.

Cambodia has asked for talks, but Thailand is not agreeing.

Trump is a complete moron and a low life. Maybe that’s why Thailand aren’t interested .

Very well stated and absolutely correct, virtually everything Tariff Trump has done in his second term has pushed dozens upon dozens of nations away from the US, and towards China. He is making the world incredibly unstable and he is diminishing or destroying alliances that took decades upon decades to build.

On top of all that Trump is a horrible negotiator and very few of the treaties he negotiates end up sticking.

This is nothing but a PR stunt, the man has no interest in peace, and does not care one iota about civilian deaths, it means nothing to him.

Trump lie, never, not in his nature - he's a straight up good guy only interested in curing the world's problems - - - yeah and father Xmas will be here soon.

Yes he did take cedit months ago for ending this conflict but in reality he has no understanding whatever what the conflict is all about.

I wonder how many Thais / Cambodian / others know the truth.

Several respected Thai history professors have mentioned in the uni lounge discussions that when the borders between Thailand and Cambodia were marked for ownerhip there was a section which wasn't marked becase at that time where the border should be marked could not be determined, complicated by the nearby location of several temples.

And It's remained like that ever since - unresolved.

Your "quotation" from the Thai history professors is very nearly correct @scorecard, but I think there is a small error, from my reading of the 1961/1962 ICC papers. There was an agreement in 1907 on the border, but the Thais couldn't do the field work so left it to the French. Captain Bertrand seized the opportunity to say that he had followed the agreed procedure, but actually grabbed some extra land for France, and the Thais didn't notice. They accepted the French printed Maps as agreed in the Treaty, and issued them, but still followed their old ideas on the ground as to where the border was. So there are still two borders, one on the agreed maps which the Cambodians rely upon, and one on the Thai maps. Not at all easy to resolve, as it needs Thaialnd to expalin how it was cheated in 1907, and why it didn't appear to notice and do anything about it at the time. Whatever arguments they used at the ICC did not work in 1962, hence their rejection of ICC. So who can decide?

Lot's of hot air .......

Must really be depressing being a lefty

Trump should send over a "VERY LARGE" supply of munitions for the F-16s

enough of the pussy footing ....

The trump haters continue as usual,     At least he's tried once already and appears willing to try again.  Good for him,   I don't see anybody else involved in trying to stop the fighting. Neither is it necessary to be the US President in order to come up with a plan for a cease fire. I'm sure if cackler Harris or Tampon Tim had a credible plan people would be prepared to listen.

If the two countries are determined to slog this out nobody is going to be able to stop them, its a loss of face  thing.

Good point. The SEA Games organizers missed the opportunity to award him the inaugural (fill space) peace award. Well a few days left so they better get going. Tesco malls downstairs have vendors that can make up medals and so on. 🤣🤣🤣

Good luck to the King of negotiated peace. Lets hope he can sprinkle his magic peace dust around like a rotund orange fairy. But mainly the Thais and Cambodians have to be jai yen yen and not start getting all shooty with each other after Trump goes elsewhere delivering peace.

Yes. Key point you missed was he wanted to end it unlike the worldwide left that want to keep prolonging it and ratchetting up the tension and the body count. I think ending it is better all round, so well done Trump thanks for all your efforts.

The fascinating part is that he's been the useful idiot for years now, he just simply does not have enough self-awareness to realize it.

You are incorrect, he represents millions upon millions of Americans both in the US and worldwide, who despise Trump and do not approve of him on any level.

We simply see him for who he and what he is. And isn't.

That's interesting.

Sometimes I do express my anti-Trump feelings to Europeans depending on social clues, but I avoid talking anything at all political with Thais.

It's my understanding that in Thai culture it's not cool and diminishes your face to express opposition to your own government to foreigners even if the Thai person might oppose your government.

Russians are expected to support Putin at least when talking to non-Russians.

Americans are expected to support Trump at least when talking to non-Americans, etc.

Of course it almost goes without saying that Thais do not want to hear what you think about their government.

Generalizations for sure and I may be wrong, but that's my understanding.
