Question about documents needed for selling a house

Featured Replies

We are selling our house in Pattaya and a prospective buyer who has contacted my wife already several times and is clearly interested in the house, called my wife today and said the bank, that will finance the purchase needs a copy of my Wife's id card and a copy of the title deed.

I am rather suspicious of handing over a copy of my wife's id card.

What do you guys think, is this normal practice?

Just to clear somethings

- it's a house in a gated village
- it's fully owned by my Thai wife *no banks involved when we purchased*
- Title deed is in my wife's name.

Thanks for any advice you can give me.

Send wife  to the bank with ID and copy of title with the buyer.

That is my guess as well, but they insisted on sending it to them. (We live in Buriram and the house is in Pattaya and we are rather tied up at the moment *long story* and can't go to Pattaya till middle of next month)

But my question really is, does a bank really wants that? Copy of iD that is (front and back that was said specifically)

I don't know, but, in Thailand you can't fart without showing your ID card to continue.....😬

Plus, there must be a zillion copies of ID cards out there, imagine how many immigration has..🤫

I agree but with identity theft lurking especially with the purchase of a house I'd rather be cautious then careless.

@Ralf001 comment is absolutely valid, and they will have to wait till my wife can get over there. We are not in a rush to sell it, we have a renter in that house and the renter will gladly stay when we don't sell it. *friend of my wife's, the renter that is*

Edit: When we purchased the property next door, the owner *who works at a bank* gave us a redacted copy of her id card, only name visible to give to our bank for the Cashiers cheque.

Have a look at the edit I made. That made me suspicious

The bank will want copies of the chanote and the wife's ID, but your wife should provide these documents directly to the bank, not to the buyer.

Ask the buyer to have their bank contact your wife with a written request for the documents.

Thx, will let the wife know.

I will let her call the buyer to tell them that we will be in Pattaya middle of next month and will hear what they have to say about the suggestion that she will hand it over at the bank only. If it is a scam and they start to insist on sending it to them direct we will know it's just a scammer

Thx

We sold our Pattaya house last December 2024.

House was rented out, but the Pommy P**ck had turned it into a Casino, so had to leave quickly with the help of Mot Dang. 🙂

I like you was worried, but at the end it all worked out well.

Ours was all cash.

If you'de like to PM me with your wife's tele. number I will ask Sup to give your wife a call.

Not saying she will, but see when she gets home.

Update:

SWMBO called the buyer and they had no problem to wait till middle of next month and they would go to the bank together, so up till now it all seems legit, will keep this thread updated when I got news.
