Bunch of Jokers.     In all the Local Rural Bars around our way the majority sitting there every evening are already 'intoxicated' before they get there.  Furthermore; the Local Cops are fairly often among them !!

Sounds great............:drunk:

I was of the opinion that serving intoxicated customers was already a breach of your alcohol licence! So nothing really changed and nothing will be enforced, just spoken about often!!!

Did they clarify who is the 'seller' of the alcohol who becomes jointly libel? The shop owner or the employee who sells it? If it's the shop owner, that means 7/11, Big-C etc. But if it is the employee ringing in the sale at the cash register, then that's (as usual) unfair to someone earning minimum wage and who doesn't want to cause a scene with some drunk across the counter. Same goes for young waiters and waitresses.

I am TT so it doesn't conern me. However, I do appreciate that other people like to drink beer etc. and socialise. Perhaps I am wrong but groups usually take care of each other (don't they?) so I think this is probably levelled at the loner. What's going to happen if an 'intoxicated' person is denied a sale? Without a friendly control the loner could cause a problem in the shop and those at the service counter aren't trained in restraining an individual. At Bars etc. they have "bouncers' but ordniary shops do not. Is not Law Enforcement a Police job? Why not have police to do the rounds regularly so as to be ready if need be...maybe I'm asking for too much.

Out in the villages this will be ignored completely.

Not just in the village? I think most bars?

Standard shopkeeper reply much the same as "Sorry, CCTV camera not work!" will be "He didn't seem drunk to me".

Yes - that would mean the police actually doing something pro active!

Very similar to alcohol laws (in place many years) in some Australian states.

If stopped and beath tested and recorded at a very high level police must take the person back to the bar / place where they were drinking and ask who served this customer. If bar staff plead ignorance the licensee is punished and possible the licensees authority to run a place serving alchol cancelled for life.

In the meantime police talk further to bar staff and make it obvious they will continue to ask questions. Ultimately bar staff person who was serving this customer is identified and given hefty fine. Possible the bar person banned from working as a bar man/woman.

After these laws were introduced bar staff / bar managers quickly became very active to refuse further service to drunk customers.

If the aprehended driver says 'I cannot remember where I was drinking', automatic jail for 48 hrs plus heavy fine. Second offense drivers license cancelleed for perhaps 6 months. Further offences automatic jail.

If I remember corectly in one state the bar manager must demand the drunk person hand over their car keys if they have had more than a stated limit on the number of drinks, and the bar must pay for a taxi to take the drunk person home.

Sounds like the People's Republic of Victoria.

Never heard of such a law where the police take you back to a bar/pub anywhere else.

Please define intoxication?

Whom shall determine if a person is intoxicated?

Who shall enforce the new law?

Nobody, as usual.

I'm just here for the comments from the alcoholics.

but what if the drunk really cannot remember where he was drinking and then fearful of punishment he just names a random bar or claims to have been drinking in several places?

Anyway this is not just about driving is it?   some people do not exhibit symptoms of intoxication even though they maybe well gone.  Others look drunk all the time by default , what about those with "learning difficulties"   they are in for a hard time , as are those in the early stages of multiple sclerosis

You do understand it was a joke, right?

Well I'd go as far as to say  it had potential, but you spoilt it now.  My comment had two intended purposes,

One was as a sobering warning to those who might fall foul of a scheming bar girl and find themselves getting blackmailed over the threat of some trumped up rape charge ,or similar,

The other was to give you the opportunity to reply with the witty punchline?  as I had assumed your sense of humour was as sick as    similar to mine. never mind ,

Here's one for you though,   What should you tell a woman with a black eye ?

That’s what they’re trying to stop I guess. Good idea but the onus on the little 7-11 girl is a biggie. Telling a headbanger Thai guy he can’t buy a beer because he’s drunk already is fraught with danger!

Suspended or banned with a bit of luck. 😉

lol I doubt he's banned, and if he is suspended its the longest suspension I have ever heard of.  Maybe he simply succumbed to the effects of the demon drink

This already happens. I was refused last Friday in a Nana bar when I obviously had had too many drinks.
