December 20, 2025Dec 20 Hi all, Does anyone have fairly recent good - or bad- cataract surgery referrals in Chiang Mai? I use Ram for a number of things, but this I’ll outsource here: I know there are some solid options available. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Dr. Satthawat Eye Clinic, 0846169619 or St. Peter Eye Hospital, 053225014, stpeter-eye.com
December 21, 2025Dec 21 Best advice I could give is always ALWAYS ALWAYS get at least two opinions. For obvious reasons I can't name a specific hospital or doctor, but I CAN say it was a prominent doctor in one of the biggest hospitals in Pattaya and this doctor misdiagnosed me for the sake of making more money (this doctor said I needed the surgery in both eyes when only one was necessary).

I have lived in Chiang Mai for over a decade and also use RAM but ... for my eyes? I went to Rutnin Eye Hospital in Bangkok (Asok & Montri). Natural lens removed, prescription lens implanted. Happy with results although at 78 experiencing "floaters". Might want to look for recommendations for St. Peter's in Chiang Mai.
December 29, 2025Dec 29 Maharaj Hospital. Public hospital linked to Chiang Mai University Medical School, so expert eye surgeon, fees for farangs relatively modest. Thronged by Thais, few foreigners, but more staff speak English than a decade ago. Arrive to register before 8.30 a.m., then wait for many hours, so take a book. Several preliminary visits required before operation
December 29, 2025Dec 29 Yes, St Peter Eye Hospital did both mine and I was really pleased with the result and pleased to be able to read afterwards as I did before when I was in my 40's.

Had successful and satisfactory cataract surgery last year at Lampphun, not far from Chang Mai by train ( I found Chiang mai to be at higher prices). If of interest Look for: Sirivejlamphun Hospital at a cost of 14,000 thb. A single surgeon. There is an english speaker there to assist and co-ordinate. Can contact online. Convenient little hotel a short walk away, if you need to overnite pre-op or post-op.
