British Man Foils Gold Necklace Snatch in Bangkok Street

Featured Replies

Glad of the outcome, but when are these idiots who want to flash their bling gonna realise wearing gold chains is probably the dumbest thing to do in the party zones of Thailand. If they’re so desperate to show it off maybe they should glue to themselves to thwart the hit and run chancers!

I don't believe a word of this report...  ... there were no Indian's and no Ladyboys involved...

  • None of these stories are believable. How does one Brit catch and hold 2 thieves, especially if the passerby goes to find local police?

  • Why randomly insert this in the story????

I’d argue $5k is not exactly a lot of bling, it’s not even a particularly loud chain these days. Plenty of blokes getting about with pretty modest watches on that are worth more than that.

I went out with an iPhone and Apple Watch last night with combined value of 100,000 baht, I guess I was at risk?

The issue isn’t a bloke with some jewellery it’s the <deleted> that tried to steal it.

The nerve of these Tunisians...taking the jobs of Thai ladyboys.

Yeah,

Bet the cheeky buggers never had a work permits as well.

Asking for a friend - Why would ANYONE wear 150,000 (one hundred and fifty thousand) baht around their neck in Sukumvith Soi 4 at 6:19am or any other time of the day or night????

While I agree $5K is not that much, $5K in gold you can sell in minutes for $4.9K. Five K in Apple watch and phone, gets you less than one K and is a PITA to move.

You wear and do want you want and I couldn’t care less about there value. My comment was about wearing gold chains, not watches or phones.

That's a chain with 2 baths of gold, which isn't that unusual.
And the time?

Bathtime.

Fair enough. I’d argue we just need less African criminals in Sukhumvit than to be worrying about whether our petty fashion items might get us robbed. But I take your point.

Since when both a Major General and a Lieutenant General get involved in minor issues let alone arrive at the scene promptly and early in the morning. Fishy!!!!

Because when the phone call came to the police station, the caller said the word, "Muslims" re: the offenders which was enough to make it a higher priority incident needing attendance, which is how it used to be in the UK when a national made an emergency call for help!

I never bring with me values outside.I leave my phone and creditcards at my hotel.Take with me cash for a night out.

That's what I thought, its like a Superintendent and a Police Chief  arresting a couple of Pickpockets in London

Nice ending to the story, sometimes these thieves have no idea what they who they are messing with, and it sounds like perhaps they picked the wrong guy. You never know when you pick a random person on the street to steal from, he could be ex-military, he could be a gangster, or a highky skilled  assassin, or martial artist. The potential possibilities are endless and the risk is very high.

Thankfully these morally bankrupt nimwits were apprehended and hopefully they'll be pretty severely punished, one way or the other.

Yeah a two star general and a three star general don’t usually work out of a police station. Maybe they got a sniff that media was going to be present hence a photo opportunity. They are that shallow🤣🤣🤣

There is hundreds of these African parasites on the streets, round them up and deport. All along sukhumvit. A real pest..

at one time it did.... could be old? 😉

I have breakfast at 6 nearly every day. Not all that unusual unless those you know are recovering alcoholics.... recovering from yesterdays binge in prep for todays....

Usually the alcoholics are up early ready for the first bars to open, pass them every say on soi 4 when im heading down to benjakitti park for my daily walk.

Apparently they've been told they can't come here anymore, something about  a social media  boycott campaign, over  a statue,

And now its the complete opposite,

I'm glad it happened here, at least  they will  dealt with "properly"  the authorities  I bet their on overstay too, its not really the behaviour of short term tourists so they will get busted for that too and any sentence for that will be added on and served .

Immediately on their release they will be deported and hopefully if they can't afford the flight, they can spend a bit more time in the IDC. Happy days.  Oh nearly forgot the lifetime ban

Their entire experience would be a stark contrast to what would happen to them in the UK or probably any EU country these days,

And to think , there are people on this forum who moan and whinge about how Thailand needs to be dragged into the 21st century, and how their prison system is inhumane,   Why would they care,?      it certainly seems effective  though, as this sort of theft happens multiple times a day in UK cities and towns , its actually quite rare here

Right.  Occupation: thief

How did these thieving idiot Tunies even get into the Kingdom in the first place?

How have they managed to stay here and live as criminals?

(Doubtful this was their first robbery...)

Dead-end alley. And note...

Plural means more than one.

Plus, like most of the Brits wandering Soi 4 at dawn, he was ex- SAS.

Dead easy.

I wish I could be one of those elites wandering around in Thailand.

Saddly I was not SAS, I was ASA (really, look it up if you don't know)
