Thai actor and singer Pakorn Lam, also known as Dome, is facing legal action under newly enforced sexual harassment laws in Thailand after making an inappropriate comment about Yossuda “Jinny” Leelapanyalert, daughter of prominent politician Sudarat Keyuraphan. The incident marks the first lawsuit under the revised legislation, effective December 30, which expands the definition of sexual harassment to include non-physical interactions such as online comments.

Jinny gained public attention by supporting her mother and the Thai Sang Thai Party in upcoming campaigns, despite not being an election candidate herself. The controversy began when social media influencer Viravat “Dew” Walaisathian shared Jinny's photo on Facebook, receiving widespread attention. Dome's comment suggesting he was sexually aroused by the picture prompted immediate backlash, with many accusing him of harassment.

Initially, Dome deleted the comment, denying personal responsibility by stating his account was managed by multiple administrators. However, after investigating, he acknowledged he likely posted the comment and attributed his actions to alcohol influence, despite not knowing Jinny personally. Despite his apology, Jinny and her mother decided to proceed with legal action, reinforced by Dome's video admission of responsibility.

The revamped harassment laws now classify non-physical interactions as offences, with penalties including up to five years in prison or a 100,000 baht fine. Dome’s case will test these new provisions, as the legal system seeks to implement stricter enforcement regarding online conduct.

Looking forward, as the legal process unfolds, Dome’s case might set a precedent for future applications of the law, emphasizing accountability for public figures. Observers are watching how this case impacts both Dome’s career and the broader cultural approach to online interactions within Thailand, reported The Thaiger.

Key Takeaways

  • Dome is the first individual sued under Thailand’s new harassment laws.
  • The revised law covers non-physical sexual harassment, including online remarks.
  • Legal action proceeds despite Dome’s public apology and video statement.

Less about harassment and more about which of the snowflake elite was harassed.

Normally, a new law does not apply to previous actions.

A whole new industry created for lawyers and their snowflake clients.

wow. That was quick, wasn't it? Almost like law was tailor made.... but what do I know (not much)

Stating that you feel aroused by someone is sexual harassment?

Let's follow that logic : Fantasising having sex with someone would then be rape. That makes most of us serial rapists.

Let's lock half the country up.

That Sudarat woman is a serial limelight seeker, in the past with Tony, now flailing around in the political wilderness desperate for attention.

Lock him up for 69 years. That will teach him a lesson.

Jeez!! What's the world coming to?

So this law must be retroactive? Seems a bit messy.

Thailand trying to catch up with the UK?, where a guy can be charged for looking at a woman too long. It’s got to the point where a bloke is terrified to chat to a woman in a bar. Gawd forbid he might succeed, take her home for some consensual action, only to be charged for rape 10y down the line and subsequently have his life ruined because she changed her mind.
