On New Year's morning, police in Udon Thani, Thailand, arrested a Norwegian man after discovering him naked and intoxicated in an alley. The incident, which took place at around 9:40 am on January 1st, 2026, prompted local and tourist police to intervene when alerted by concerned residents.

Eyewitnesses reported that the man, identified as 28-year-old Hansen, was performing push-ups in public while appearing unconcerned by those around. His discarded clothing and shoes were found in a nearby canal. After being detained, Hansen was escorted to an apartment building to get dressed, where police verified his valid passport and returned 3,500 Thai baht found in his shorts.

Hansen admitted to celebrating New Year’s Eve in the local area with heavy drinking. He stated that his friends left earlier in the night, and by 2 am, he was too inebriated to recall his actions, including his nudity and wandering through the alley. Concerned residents reported his behaviour to the authorities, including a 13-year-old girl who encountered him attempting to force open a toilet door and then walk naked.

Prasit, a 70-year-old caretaker of the apartment where Hansen was staying, confirmed that he had lived there for about a month. The property owner now plans to request his departure. Hansen also reportedly caused a disturbance at a shopping centre prior to his arrest. He has been charged with committing an indecent act and remains in custody at Udon Thani City Police Station, with legal proceedings forthcoming, reported Khaosod.

Key Takeaways:

  • Norwegian man arrested for indecent exposure on New Year's Day.

  • Local police coordinated with tourist police after a public disturbance.

  • Legal proceedings under Thai law are anticipated.

At least he would be better dressed then than half of the soi Buakhao jay walkers

At least he is fit and young, some eye candy for ladys

Highlight of this story: The police gave his 3500 baht in cash back to him.

Take me out back and put me out of my misery if I ever get bitter enough to call for deporting someone for a no-harm, no-foul offense.

Especially the day after New Years Eve. That should qualify for an indulgence. And maybe a 500 baht fine.

I think he was being somewhat sarcastic with the cynicism that any thread with news of a foreigner putting a foot wrong in Thailand leads to a plethora of responses on this forum suggesting 'deport & blacklist'.....

... as people picked up on...

Naked pushups, that's a new one. With your organ dangling over the dirty pavement. Quite a workout.

So Taboo2, I guess you have never ever been a naughty little boy.

Poor Geography knowledge ? did you get mixed up with the well behaved Norwegians and bad agressive Brits ?

I'm sure you can find similar articles for other nationalities as well.

That was exactly my point... We can find similar articles for any nationality.

Thank-you for contradicting yourself.

Contradicting myself? What on earth are you talking about? This was my first post in this thread.

Listing up all those articles, you seem to have a problem with Norwegians. That's weird.

I have been drunk (very drunk) on a few occasions in my 70 years of life. But, never ever drunk enough to go naked in public.

I suspect that alcohol was not the only drug involved in this incident.

Ah.. my bad... mixed you up with TopThai54 - who posted a generalised slur against Brits so my response was to show that any nation has its 'wrong uns'.... and as he'd mentioned 'the well behaved Norwegians' and 'bad agressive Brits' ... I highlighed some 'not so well behaved' Norwegians..

Your initial response highlighted my point... I didn't think it needed spelling out though.

That might have more to do with where you’re from, perhaps ?

Europeans, for one, are far more comfortable with nudity. The French seem to think a beach is incomplete without a few exposed norks. German men? Well, the stereotype has them happily dangling their bits on lakesides without a second thought. Meanwhile, over in the USA, public nudity tends to be met with more raised eyebrows than applause. And the Scandinavians? Give them half a chance and they’ll strip off for an icy lake dip or a mixed sauna session, completely unfazed.

As for me, being a touch more reserved, booze has occasionally nudged me into my own naked adventures. Skinny-dipping dares on lads’ holidays, or the classic ‘naked run’ as a result of sporting mishaps; missed a sitter, dropped a beer - back in Uni days. It wasn’t an uncommon sight at the Student Union bars to see someone streaking by on a Wednesday or Saturday night. High spirits - amusing times...

What this lad got up to seems harmless enough - more of a nuisance than a threat - though I do wonder if there was more than just alcohol involved, the location seems an odd place to suddenly have the urge to 'get free' - at least he wasn't washing himself off in a fountain after crapping himself !
