No, Lopburi province is holding elections this weekend, my wife got 200 baht tonight, just to make sure she voted for #1.

Ditto in Khon Kaen - except no 200 Baht given to the wife :(

Cue the alcoholics who have no life other than being blotto every day of the week

I am sure visitors won't mind not drinking on one Sunday.

It's not about free booze but about selling booze.

Looks like even the locals can't tell their SAO from their elbow.

The good news for me:

The loudest and frequent here was some #3.

#5 Pheu Thai not even needs much campaign and will be elected. My guess 😁

These speaker campaigning with not much more than roaring a number shows the level of democratic development.

Nobody around my area took any notice, bussines as usual. Annutin and his mob parked outside a gated community 2 days ago for 2 hours screaming numbers out, not policy and had a hundred or so waving banners, peeved everyone off.

Nothing to do with alcoholics it’s about the freedom to go to a supermarket, bar etc to buy alcohol. The majority of tourists won’t be happy, no they are not alcoholics but just fancy a drink either in a bar or restaurant when on holiday, they are not the ones voting are they ? It’s a sad when the government think people can’t be trusted to vote in the event they might be inebriated, it’s called control.

A bit crass. I’m no alcy (I think) but don’t take kindly to having the choice taken away. It is Orwellian. Anyway, since they cannot vote, wtf has it got to do with farangs anyway? Should only apply to Thais. 😋

No, just educated well enough to be able to spell. And I can even open my own beer when required. Multi-talented.

Every election always the same don,t know why but it does. Why would alcohol bans stop anyone from voting.Just the rules in thailand the bars closed in town except the mom and pop shops will sell for the thais as usual

This measure affects the sale, distribution, and consumption of alcohol nationwide, with potential penalties including up to six months in prison and fines of 10,000 Baht for violators. The ban aims to ensure the smooth conduct of elections scheduled for January 11, 2026.

Thailands push for ore tourists takes another hit...
