Documentation needed for holiday visa to UK for Thai wife?

Featured Replies

Hi. What Docs do I need to show for a holiday visa for my wife? Also can I take all the Docs to the VFS in Bangkok or do I have to send them online to them?

  • Popular Post

She needs to provide evidence to satisfy the Entry Clearance Officer, the Decision Maker, that she is a genuine visitor to the UK who that on the balance of probabilities will return to her home country at the conclusion of her proposed visit, and that her proposed visit is affordable.

She should submit details of her ties to her home country, accommodation and employment and the like along with her finances. If you are sponsoring her trip you should prove that it’s affordable and reasonable for you to do so.

In detailing her proposed trip she should detail her plans, if she is staying with you, you need to submit details of your accommodation.

She needs to submit her application, and pay the fee, online.

We can give further advice if you provide more details of her planned holiday.

Your first question has been answered.

As for your 2nd question, you have 2 options:

you can upload the pdf copies of your documents yourself (no cost), or,

when you make your application, you can choose to pay for the officer to upload the documents that you take to the office for applicants interview on your behalf (from memory, I think it's b800).

Yes, she can take her supporting documents to her biometrics appointment at VFS and they can upload them for her, l think they will charge her 880 THB.

For the avoidance of doubt there’s no interview at VFS, their role is basically to capture her biometric details, she should of course take her passport with her.

Only took 3 Days for her to get a reply from UK immigration after her visit to VFS in Bangkok for her biometrics. Thanks guys she now has her tourist visa.

Many thanks for the info what was the cost in baht or sterling ?

I am a retired UK citizen with a wife aged 61 thinking of a UK holiday for 10 days with wife in June this year.

Can you pay online with a UK credit card or a Thai debit card or bank transfer?

Did you have to buy the compulsary

'Uk Immigration Health Surcharge"

for your Thai wife please and how much would that be for 10 nights , I am planning same holiday .

Or is proof of funds or a Thai holiday insurance proof in English sufficient.

My wife owns a house outright but is self employed will bank savings proof be sufficient?

.When we went Oz I acted as gaurantor and can do again.

I plan to be with her from here to relatives in UK and take her to check in at Heathrow, I will stay on a week longer to visit sick friend.

We may stay some hotels en route but do we need an invite letter from hosts to apply.

(does it need exact dates as cannot be known until flight times, known)

Also reluctant to book flights until approved is this acceptable?

Alternative is book a very expensive fully refundable ticket and cancel later?

Cost is not the issue. more travel and hassle as we are both seniors but pefer not to have to make more than one over long journey to Office in C Mai or Bangkok Which I belive was in Trendy Bdg soi 13, but moved somewhere else?

Can wife attend interview alone or is it better if I go with her?

All advice welcome

For info on process and costs you need to read:

Applying for a UK Standard Visitor Visa from Thailand involves completing an online application on the GOV.UK website, paying fees (approx. £127 for 6 months), and attending a biometrics appointment at a VFS Global center in Bangkok or Chiang Mai. Applicants must provide a valid passport, proof of financial stability, travel itinerary, and evidence of strong ties to Thailand.

The aim is to provide reasons/evidence that the wife (on her own or supported by you or your family in uk) has sufficient means to take care of herself for a holiday in the UK, AND, most importantly, that she will return and has reasons to return to Thailand.

I recently used my UK credit card.

Did you have to buy the compulsary

No idea what that is. I didn't buy it when I recently got the wife a 2 year visa.

Or is proof of funds or a Thai holiday insurance proof in English sufficient.

See comments above. You should provide copies or UK and or Thai bank account statements (wife's and/or yours) to prove she has sufficient funds for the visit.

My wife owns a house outright but is self employed will bank savings proof be sufficient?

See comment above.

Yes. I also always get a guarantor letter from my brother stating that we will staying at his house.

I plan to be with her from here to relatives in UK and take her to check in at Heathrow, I will stay on a week longer to visit sick friend.

We may stay some hotels en route but do we need an invite letter from hosts to apply.

See above comment. Not necessary but definitely helps her case if you can get support letters to provide with her application.

(does it need exact dates as cannot be known until flight times, known)

I don't think so. Could be vague stating that when she visits she/you will stay with relatives.

Also reluctant to book flights until approved is this acceptable?

Yes. Should be sufficient to state the period when you are planning to visit, and that tickets will be purchased after receipt of her visa.

Alternative is book a very expensive fully refundable ticket and cancel later?

See above comment.

Yes it moved to 1st Floor, BS003 – BS003/1, The Shoppes at Belle Grand Rama 9 131/1,141/1, Unit, Grand Rama 9, Huai Khwang, Bangkok 10310. It's a better setup than Trendy.

Can wife attend interview alone or is it better if I go with her?

Only wife can enter VFS office, you sit outside. She takes her passport. If you uploaded support docs, she takes the originals in case they want to see. If you didn't upload, you can pay a bit more (I think b880) and the staff will upload whe she attends. It's not really an interview, I noticed people were in and out in 10mins.

Recently applied and passport with visa was posted back to us (paid extra for that) within a week.

If you are not confident about applying yourself, there are agents who can assist but I have no idea about them as I always do the applications myself.

Good luck!

Further to the previous reply, I’ll add a couple more comments.

The application must be paid for online during the application process, a debit or credit card from the UK or Thailand can be used, but not a bank transfer.

She doesn’t need to pay the Immigration Health Surcharge, that’s required when the applicant intends to remain in the UK for more than six months, typically students and those settling.

Travel insurance isn’t required, though obviously wise to have, even for you, there’s no need to submit evidence of insurance.

Your wife needs to satisfy the ECO, the decision maker, that on the balance of probabilities she’ll leave the UK at the conclusion of her proposed visit. Evidence of her ties to Thailand is what they’re looking for, her house any employment are all good, if you live in Thailand together and are in subsisting relationship, then provide evidence of that.

A guarantor is not required as it’s not enforceable in UK Law, if you submit one it would not be taken into consideration.

There’s no need to book flights in advance, in fact the advice from the UKVI is not to book flights until a visa has been issued, it should be obvious with her an/or your proof of finances, that the trip is affordable.

Hotel bookings are not required, nor can they be used as evidence, but it’s good to provide an indicative summary of your plans.

There is no interview at the Visa Application Centre (VAC), the main purpose is for the applicants biometric details to be captured. The application is submitted online, her supporting evidence can be uploaded prior to the visit though the staff at the VAC can do so for an extra fee.

Good luck
