A Chinese woman was robbed at scissor-point in Chonburi on the 11 January 2026, losing cash and property worth more than 50,000 baht after being lured into a meeting under the pretence of a house purchase. The incident left her physically restrained, her vehicle badly damaged and police launching an urgent manhunt for the suspect.

The victim, identified as Miss Yang, aged 35 and a Chinese national, reported the crime at 00.05 on 12 January 2026 to police from Nong Prue Police Station. She told investigators that a Chinese man later identified as Mr. Gong aged 30, threatened her with scissors, bound her with adhesive tape, after forcing her to hand over money and valuables.

According to her statement given through an interpreter, Miss Yang had earlier met Mr Gong after previously discussing the purchase of a house. She picked him up in her own car to view a property before driving him back after the viewing was completed.

While returning, the suspect allegedly produced scissors and held them against her waist. He then forced her to drive to the rear of a housing estate at Phatthanakan 4, off of Soi Nern Plub Wan.

Once there, he ordered her to stop the car and stole her Huawei mobile phone, valued at approximately 20,000 baht. He also forced her to provide the password for a WeChat transfer, taking 6,996 yuan, valued at about 31,482 baht, bringing the total loss to more than 50,000 baht.

After taking the property, he used adhesive tape to bind her body and the suspect attempted to leave with the victim still using her car. A member of the public approached to warn that parking was not permitted in the area, startling the suspect and prompting him to try to drive away at speed.

The victim resisted by pushing her body against the driver’s seat and causing him to veer off course and crash into a wall, leaving the car severely damaged and unable to move. Taking advantage of the chaos, despite still being bound with tape and shouted for help from the passer-by. Seeing that the car could no longer be driven, the suspect abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. Police were called to the scene shortly afterwards and provided assistance to the victim.

Officers from Nong Prue Police Station immediately broadcast a description of the suspect and attempted to intercept him, but no arrest has yet been made. Investigators have obtained the suspect’s name and the pickup location and are continuing efforts to trace and prosecute him under the law.

Maybe real estate agents need to re-think their way of doing business.

Do they really need to offer this courtesy of picking up the client in their own vehicles?

Just force the clients to arrange their own transportation.

I have seen them do both approaches. They can pick up prospective buyers and drive them around to view several properties, or meet them at a specific property. In the latter case a few viewings may take place over a some hours. In both cases women agents on their own are likely at risk. I recall one coming to a house near me had my tongue hanging out as she was absolutely stunning!

Women shouldnt be driving men.

On Bolt apps, at least the app tracks who is hailing the ride.

"A member of the public approached to warn that parking was not permitted in the area, startling the suspect"

Nice to see one of the neighborhood busybodies actually perform a valuable service.

Fabulous Pattaya Radio reporting that she had proper permissions in place. I guess she is allowed customers who are Chinese only and non-Thai speakers.

Chinese Suspect Sought After Pattaya Real Estate Attack

Police in Pattaya are intensifying a manhunt for a 30-year-old Chinese national after a Chinese woman working as a real estate coordinator was lured to view a property, threatened with scissors, forced to transfer money, bound with tape and abandoned in a car. The attack occurred late on the night of 11 January, and the victim survived after being rescued by civil defence volunteers. The Pattaya Provincial Court has now approved an arrest warrant, escalating the case and prompting wider security measures.

The victim, identified as Ms Yang, also known as “Wendy”, was contacted by the suspect through a Facebook page belonging to a real estate company. He claimed to be interested in viewing a house, leading the company to assign Ms Yang, a student working as a temporary coordinator, to assist him. Police said the suspect deliberately built familiarity and trust by arranging property viewings and maintaining contact.

On the night of the incident, the suspect contacted the victim via the WeChat application, claiming he wanted to inspect the surrounding area of the property. When Ms Yang arrived to pick him up, he allegedly threatened and forced her to transfer 6,966 yuan. He then attempted to make her transfer more money but failed, after which he bound her body with adhesive tape and drove away.

During the escape, the suspect’s lost control and crashed into a wall. He fled the scene on foot, leaving the victim trapped inside the car. Members of the Civil Defence Volunteer Corps call to the scene noticed something unusual and intervened, managing to rescue Ms Yang.

Police later searched the vehicle and found a bag belonging to the suspect containing a passport, a mobile phone, an air gun, scissors and 360 baht in cash. The victim confirmed the items belonged to the attacker. Investigators used this evidence to seek an arrest warrant on charges of robbery using force and unlawful detention.

On 12 January, Pol Col Nattapol Phongsuksakul, superintendent of Nong Prue Police Station, ordered an intensive investigation involving Chonburi Provincial Police and Immigration Police.

Immigration records show the suspect, identified as Mr Gaopeng Gong, entered Thailand through Suvarnabhumi Airport on 23 December 2025 on a 60-day tourist visa and reported an address in Bangkok. Police released his picture, taken on entry and believe he remains in Thailand as he left his passport behind and have tightened border controls to prevent him fleeing the country. Efforts to locate and arrest him are continuing.

• Police have identified a 30-year-old Chinese suspect and obtained an arrest warrant on serious criminal charges.

• Authorities believe the suspect is still in Thailand and have increased efforts to prevent his escape.

Stop NOW visa free entry for nationals of China.

Not for every other nationality whose nationals commit crimes here also...just the Chinese? Why?

Shouldn;t you be including the US, UK, Europe, Scandinacian countries, S Korea, Japan, Russia, Middle East countries, your country, et al, also?

You can get a work permit to sell estate in Thailand? That's odd since real estate besides condos can't be bought by non-Thais. I've seen people on YouTube with real estate channels and I was always curious if it was illegal.

No.

My country's people do no wrong in Thailand ever.

So scary for the lady.

In England in 1986 we had the dreadful case of the estate agent Suzy Lamplugh who was murdered by a client viewing a property - the culprit remains free to day

Maybe the only safe way for a lady to work in that position is to never visit a house alone with a possible client?

I realise that for many small agencies the cost implication of having 2 staff taking a prospective client to a viewing is not practical- but just have to read the Suzy Lamplugh case to see the dangers

Seeing that the car could no longer be driven, the suspect abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

Would that be Mr Long Gone ?

False. Obviously.

If I'm remembering correctly, all but maybe one of the property sales my spouse and I have done in Thailand that involved a real estate agent were done by foreign agents, not Thai agents. Probably at least 15 or so, maybe a few more. Plus, some properties we bought. Foreigners are allowed to be real estate agents, with the proper visa and work permits.

This appears on the list of occupations reserved for Thai's.
