Did you notice Shopee.co.th prices differ for Thais and Farangs?

Featured Replies

For some time now, I've stopped buying expensive items from shopee.co.th, instead asking my Thai girlfriend to buy them for me. The reason is that the prices she's offered are always significantly lower than what I'm entitled to. And the difference is not negligible.

Today we checked the prices of 215/60R17 tires. I connected from my computer, and my girlfriend from her phone. My girlfriend's price was 21,800 THB for four tires. My price, at the same store and for the same tires, was 24,800 THB. A difference of 3,000 THB.

We took screenshots of the different offers.

It's really annoying, and even more annoying because it's systematic and consistent for every item I check. I advise anyone to check the price Shopee charges to a Thai acquaintance before buying expensive items on Shopee.

It is possible. However, my Apple account is European, and the Shopee.co.th App is geofenced in such a way that cannot be uploaded in my iPhone, unlike the Lazada App. Therefore, I have no choice but to use my PC instead.

By the way, Lazada prices on the other end are consistent.

Or get a cheap android off of shopee - I bought my wife an Oppo mid-range (A74-5G) phone for 2,300 baht.

No, because there’s no difference.

There's ways round that.

I don't use an iphone but saw the process written up in a thread recently. It's very similar to android where you would create a second account based in your new location and download the app when logged into that account. You can switch back to the original account once downloaded. In Android you can switch the location within an account too, but that is restricted to one change every 6 months(?) so some users prefer creating a new one.

Many thanks, KhulnA, for the authoritative confirmation of what I already knew: iPhones are indeed designed in the USA.

Apple might be just a bit more flexible. You must generally wait 90 days between changes to associate a device with a new region for services like Family Sharing. But, before changing, you must cancel all subscriptions, spend account balances, and have a valid payment method for the new region, which is rather impractical.

Then there is the issue of geofenced applications. I regularly go back to my home country and it's essential I have access also to applications available only over there.

It's a Catch-22 kind of situation 😄

I don't look at Lazada much, but a search sent me there today and it literally says "SAVE MORE ON APP"........

Thanks. I hadn't realized this yet, but the Lazada App, unlike the Shopee one, isn't geo-phenced. Therefore, I downloaded it to my phone. I access Lazada on both my phone and my computer, whichever is more convenient.

I do my shopping on the laptop, but check out on my phone, as gives you discounts, coins, vouchers the laptop does not.

Thanks to @BritManToo for enlightening me to that little tidbit 👍

Here you are again, you loser.

It doesn't take a genius to figure out that Photoshopping is certainly not one of your strong points. Just look at how you stuck the Apple logo on that poor LCD screen...

Ask for help next time 🫠.

I really don't care that much to make the photo perfect. I notice you attack the messenger, instead of the message. Designed in USA ... that's some funny sh!t, as if that has much to do with anything. HQ'd in USA, is nothing but symbolic marketing.

Apple iPhone is about as Chinese as you can get. As are most USA HQ'd products.

I have an MG, and they still have a HQ in the UK. Do you think I believe anything about my car is UK. Frankly if UK had much input, I would have never bought. They went belly up for reason.

LOL. And you're right, as far as MG is concerned, that's it. MG Motor's UK headquarters is basically a garage, converted into a conference room for the unveiling of the its shi**y cars from China, which employs only 68 people.

As for Apple, its Cupertino headquarters is located in a 175-acre complex, Apple Park, which is clearly visible from space and houses 12,000 employees.

Now, please tell me: who in their right mind would equate a 50,000-square-foot garage converted into a shi**y car showroom with a 175-acre complex that employs 12,000 people?
I mean, who else besides you, obviously?

Not sure what that has to do with the production of iPhones, as nothing is produced at that facility. You stated you would NOT want anything made in China ... oops

A lot of empty space, compared to a real iPhone factory ... see 'iPhone City' below

MG autos are excellent now. As myself and other owners have posted about. Thankfully, only that MG badge is the only remnant from decades past.

What I wrote is reproduced below (and you quoted it verbatim), and I think it's worth jogging your fading memory.

And then let me ask you: what is that you don't understand about "Chinese designed and made phones"? Is it just the word "designed"? Or the word "and" confusing your mind?

Or, since you bought a cheap Chinese MG pushcart, do you find it outrageous that someone doesn't trust products designed and made in China?

If this is the problem, don't worry. We all make mistakes, including me.

I trust products made in CN, over any other country. With maybe TH & KR being the only other countries I've bought high quality products from. Don't think I own anything made in Europe or the Americas,. Not even when I lived in the USA, post 1990. Even the one Ford I owned came out of Mazda factory, abet, made in the USA. Now there isn't much that is made in the USA. As a couple other vehicles & MC (Honda) were, but not from USA auto maker.

Designed in USA, that's a stretch, IMHO. iPhone to CN ... "these are the specs we want, make it for us". CN has to source & do everything else & actually produce it.

So if MG was HQ'd in the USA, and their excellent cars where available, then you'd buy one ? cheesy

@AndreasHG

iPhone uses some ASUS software (like GlideX or ROG Connect). Kudos, as big ASUS fan, and the only laptops I'll buy, from KR.

I see iPhone uses Sony camera sensors in their phones. Kudos again for that, as I'm a Sony fan also, and my Xiaomi / POCO phone also use Sony sensors. My interchangeable camera lens kits (bodies & lenses) are also Sony. Though made in CN & TH. As were my non Sony lenses.

As is & was, a few of my camera drones, and 1 of 2 that I still presently have and use a Sony sensor. Along with all my other drones, and RC cars & boats. All made in CN, as was all the parts I used when making my own drones from scratch.

Of course the MG, under the SAIC umbrella, and first EV maker to give life time warranties, to cover battery, motor, controller, to any owner, original or 2nd hand buyer of most BEV they produce. That's product confidence, and I'd probably only buy another MG, if in the market. Though ours will probably outlast us.

Sounds like a second account is the best solution for you if Apple allow it. One for here and one for your home country to give you the best of both worlds.

yet 70%-72% of smartphones world wide are ANDROID, and not all android phones are made in China. Such a narrow minded approach by you.

If you add anything to the shopping cart for ANY app, they will always offer you discounts and they are real discounts. I order cheap crap that's actually turned out to be decent from Laz and TEMU and they always give discounts on the app. Lazada never did until the last 6 months...basically copying them. Buy through the app. The service is good enough but I do C.O.D. on any qualifying items that are available. If you are friends with your delivery driver, he'll let you open the package to make sure it's what you ordered.
