A foreign tourist was detained by police in Pattaya after damaging a municipal enforcement officer’s patrol vehicle while heavily intoxicated, causing disruption in a busy nightlife area. The incident occurred in the early hours of 21 January 2026 and prompted officers to take the man into temporary custody until he sobers up. No injuries were reported, but the vehicle sustained damage.

The incident took place at approximately 1.20am during a routine patrol by Pattaya municipal enforcement officers. The patrol was being carried out along Soi 6, Pattaya Beach Road, Chonburi province. The area is known for its high concentration of beer bars and entertainment venues, particularly during late-night hours.

Authorities said the patrol vehicle was driving through the middle of Soi 6 when the incident occurred. The unnamed foreign national, was identified only as an American national and allegedly approached the vehicle without warning. The man was described as being in a state of severe intoxication.

According to officials, the tourist suddenly became aggressive and began striking the municipal officer’s vehicle. The attack appeared unprovoked and the man showed signs of confusion and agitation. Officers quickly stopped the vehicle to assess the situation.

Mr Udon Woranam, a Pattaya municipal enforcement officer, said the man walked directly towards the patrol car and started smashing it. Officers exited the vehicle and were able to restrain and control the suspect at the scene. The situation was brought under control before it escalated further.

The foreign tourist was then taken to Pattaya City Police Station and handed over to investigating officers. Police confirmed that no municipal officers were injured during the incident. The patrol vehicle, however, was damaged as a result of the attack.

At the police station, officers attempted to question the suspect but were unable to do so. Police said the man was incoherent, unable to provide personal details and could not respond meaningfully to questions due to his intoxicated state.

As a result, police placed him in a holding cell on a temporary basis. Authorities said this was to allow him time to recover from the effects of alcohol before formal questioning. Legal proceedings will continue once he is sober and able to be interviewed.

Police have not yet confirmed what charges may be filed against the suspect. They stated that the case will proceed in accordance with the law. Further details regarding the man’s identity and potential penalties are expected after questioning is completed.

DOn't care how drunk he may have been - would he have done it in Dubai or Singapore ?

Nope. Even when you are that pissed some defensive mechanism will mean you dare not to do it there.

There is a culture here in Thailand to do as you please.

Next flight out should cure him

Ummm, let's see, American Citizen with American passport and American address and residence? Does that help you understand what "from the US means"?

Well, according the Stephen Miller, when you are a super power you must project strength and power and are allowed to do whatever you want. I guess this guy took him at his word.

.......🤣 Yeah, right! And I am the new leader of Somalia

From what I hear law enforcement officers can take quite an offense to someone plowing into their vehicle. In America it might even get you shot in the head, by a murderous thug like Jonathan Ross.

I thought we only had these discussions when the aggressor was French-man going by any name other than Jean-Pierre !!!

Irrespective where he comes from, to pick a vehicle, especially a municipal officer’s vehicle, shows a severe level of phukwittery.

Would this guy have even acted like this in America? He likely would have been shot had he threatened a cop there.

Thailand desperately needs to address the balance between not wanting to garner headlines that may tarnish tourism, to actually protecting locals and responsible tourists. At the moment they are irring to much on the side of too niceness.

No matter how intoxicated you may have been there is something in all of us that knows right or wrong even in that state. Eg, you wouldn't just go on a random shooting spree then blame it on being pissed, you are still aware it's wrong.

Foreigners lately are coming to Thailand, seeing the submissive niceness of many in society then thinking they can do as they please without any consequences.

Even for this incident, who would wager he pays a little fine and is on his way. We won't ever hear anything.

Had he done this in Dubai the consequences would have been massive. And like i said had he done it in America he likely would have been shot.

Who laid his claim on soi 6, by offering to 500 Baht to all the girls, probably.
