Working ain't bad, and whatever gets your ass up in the morning is the best hobby anyone can have.

Farming or gardening is my thing together with her family.

Can't for one second think of retiring and do nothing.

Weights

Rowing

Ski machine

Boxing

Balance board

Slack line haven't had it up for two years, so time to get it up again

Motorbike riding in the Jungle and Forrest and up in the mountains on dirt roads

Just bought this one and brought it to Thailand

And how did that go?

It went well. The beer tasted great.

I tried to give you an inroad as to how that specific "hobby" went and that is the best response you can do!

I was, wrongly, expecting a little more detail!

How pathetic that you start a topic and cannot contribute to it with any meaningful content!

Being productive or increasing productivity was a term used by the bosses during your working life to make them more money while paying you the same. And most of us fell for it. Sadly.

Well... Just hit the bottle

Isn't posting on this site a hobby for you?

Not wanting to reignite the embarrassing spat about 4WD Vs 2WD trucks in Thailand, but one of my retirement 'hobbies' is running a small business in a sector that interests me, and it involves visiting farms - and this needs some drives along muddy farm tracks. While not serious off roading, as there's only slight inclines, in the rainy season there's more than enough mud to need 4WD and a diff lock.

The driving along slippery trails is fun, and farms are fascinating, plus farmers are great to work with. They just get stuff done rather than talk about it, often by improvising due to lack of funds.

But I have noticed that that while they often need a 4X4, many of their trucks are the 2WD versions due to initial buying and running costs. When they get stuck, which is often, they use a tractor to pull them out.

Sometimes I think I'd like to stop working and retire properly, as I also enjoy riding my motorbike around Thailand, and due to lack of spare time, my 2021 Kawasaki has only done 8000 km in total!

Yeah i agree. Wet season on back roads be tough in 2wd.

Ham radio, lots of fun!

  • I've been arrested twice by the Lao police for legally enjoying my hobby

  • Permanently scarred when a collapsing antenna almost 'cookie-cuttered' my hand

  • Suffered 2 rotator cuff injuries (lifting heavy antennas)

  • Fell out a tree in Laos as I'm putting up antennas

  • etc etc

As I said, so much fun... NOT!

In his case it is more like obsession, addiction, compulsion, and dependency. It's really his whole life. Not a hobby.

I remember this hobby was very popular in the 1970's & 1980's but now with advanced technology eg WhatsApp & zoom I guess it's not popular

May I ask if I'm correct and please don't hesitate to correct my verbal corrections but Ham Radio is talking to people around the world

Thankyou for your service

I guess in all its righteousness ( if that is the correct word)

It all depends on what area of South East Asia you live , and I just say this forum is NOT only a "Thailand" only forum but for everyone in South East Asia ,

Having said that it depends on where you live and what hobbies, obviously if your hobby is Muay Thai it would be a bit difficult to do that in say Duamagette, Phillipines if your retired there

Oh stop complaining please !!!

If your hobby is not available in Da Nang Vietnam where your retired then move !!!

But I must say a very interesting topic

Yes, most radio amateurs verbally 'chat', but actually, I have very rarely spoken with any other radio ham, since getting my ham licence some 45 years ago! I find most of their conversations to be rather boring... Instead I usually dabble in SSTV - sending and receiving photos or images, such as photos of Lao temples when operating from Laos, or images of Thai food when operating from Thailand. (Others send female nude images, but I find that rather tasteless).

Yes, I can easily contact others on the other side of the world by email or WhatsApp. But for me, it's a technical challenge of designing and building a simple antenna from a few metres of wire, that can propagate my image to the other side of the world with just a few watts of energy.

Here's one of the SSTV images that I send from Laos :)

Tai Chi started recently, gym weekly for the last 50 years. Play a littler guitar, hunt, fish, cook, traveling more when we return to the states. All things to do to take time doing things you enjoy and are also healthy.

If you ready to lay down, maintain your lifestyle challenges and become melancholic about your life, then maybe it's the right time? But many still got some life positivity and still got some energy to do something and be someone, then you need to maintain what you got as long as possible.

It is all about feeding the brains chemistry to feel happy about yourself and where you are about.

Useally it start with how you wiring your brain, make healthy decisions, and do what you want to do.

I'm sure there are some around as I see elders practicing it in parks in the closest large city but not sure about what's involved besides the exercises.

It's great in the winter, but don't underestimate the impact of heat at other times.
