Thailand is far right

Some seem to know everything about us, even though they've never been within 100 miles (160 KM) of us.

Some are obsessed with where we are at any given time.

I can assure you, you are everything else than placed on the middle of the scale. And if that is personal for you to point out, then let it be.

Mind reader are you? Right back at ya, non personal: I can assure you, that you are clearly far to the left of the scale.

They keep moving the goalsposts. Fascism and National Socialism were Lefties until the Communists decided to promote the opposite.

Let's see what AI have to say!

Thailand isn’t “far right” like Europe or MAGA-style politics

Thailand doesn’t fit neatly into left/right categories used in the US or Europe. It’s better described as:

Authoritarian / conservative

Monarchist

Military-influenced

Nationalist (but not populist-far-right)

Why people call it far right

People label Thailand “far right” because it has:

Strong royalist ideology

Harsh lèse-majesté laws (severe punishment for criticizing the monarchy)

A history of military coups

Repression of leftist, reformist, or radical movements

Those feel far-right to Western observers — but that’s mostly projection.

Why it’s not actually far right

Thailand lacks key far-right traits, such as:

Mass racial nationalism

Anti-immigrant populism (Thailand relies heavily on migrant labor)

Ideological culture wars like gender panic or religious extremism

Electoral far-right movements driven by popular mobilization

Power in Thailand comes top-down, not from a radicalized voter base.

A more accurate label

Thailand is best described as:

Authoritarian conservative state

Elite-driven nationalism

Hybrid regime (neither liberal democracy nor ideological fascism)

Bottom line

Calling Thailand “far right” is oversimplified and misleading.

It’s authoritarian and conservative, but not far-right in the ideological sense people usually mean.

Far right

Limited healthcare

Limited pension

Limited dole

Limited child support

A woman in OZ can have 5 kids to 3 blokes and gets $2000 a week and doesnt have to work. Dole for bludgers. Nice pension. Cheap drugs.

Thailand is currently, and has been for some years, entrapped by a combination of money politics and a power hungry establishment. The people themselves are far from "far right".

The people are far right

They drive how they want

They set up markets willy nilly

They work 6 days a week

They gamble on cards

They ride motorbikes no helmets

You lefties are living under a rock. Its normal to be right wing.

I would not take too kindly to being labelled as far left either , I can think of no worse insult,,however It must be obvious, to all but the blind on this forum, that in this particular case no assumption was necessary

Which I guess is why the moment they gained power the NAZIs started killing Communists and Socialists.

Your studied ignorance on the history of fascism is one of your defining characteristics.

Oz road rules hand out a 20,000 baht fine for mobile ph use whilst driving

Name them if you're so sure. You assume about everything else, thinking you know all about other members, so let us know who you think is right ,left or in the middle. People have a bad habit of labeling others without knowing much or anything about them, so let's hear your opinion, which is all it really is, and why you think that way. Labeling people on either side isn't a bad thing if they've admitted to being in that side, but unless you really know. I've already mentioned I'm in the middle, thinking both sides have good ideas and problems, but being extreme on either side is wrong so..................

What a bizarre 5 factors to use to determine a peoples political orientation!

But then I recall that you are a leading exponent of the "fascism is left wing" school of thought!

Fascism is left wing. Mussolini was a marxist and hated capitalism. Obviously you got brain washed by the media and school. Go read some history.

Thailand is very right wing. Sex everywhere. Limited road rules. Beer in 7/11. Loads of drugs no script. Food on the side on the road. Low taxes.

Most right wing nation Ive been to by far.

Instead of trolling why don't you explain why Thailand isnt right wing and give 5 or 6 reasons.

Instead of a 👎, why not present a rebuttal of my post. Explain how TH is left leaning, considering since 1932, TH had 12 military coups and 20 new charters or constitutions.

Are military coups always right wing, per se? eg. Chavez in Venezuela and Gaddafi in Libya. Carnationa Revolution in Portugal. Derg coup in Ethiopia. All engineered by army officers with what is regarded as a left wing agenda.

You're in danger of aligning non-Western political discource with Western conceits. Even in the West, there are startling differences in what constitutes "Left Wing" versus "Right Wing". Currently, in the US, partial nationalisation of tech firms is seen as a very right wing thing to do. But nationalisation of train firms (or more precisely, cancellation of licences) in the UK is seen as Left Wing. Free Trade in the UK is seen as a conservative policy, but in the US, state (federal) intervention in the market is seen as right wing. Its a mixed up world.

Most of what makes Thailand right wing is the conservative approach, with the King and Military being at the top, and the government following along in the same beliefs.

Religion, Buddhism, also has a lot to do with how it's run and the thinking there of. Traditional, hierarchical, conservative. Obedience to these in charge or else.

Many laws which aren't enforced as much as they should be, a poor country being a main reason.

They give the people free healthcare and some land but not much else. You cannot work legally after 60 besides on your own farm, with pensions for only certain jobs.

Although some think liberal, that's frowned on. Elected officials can be tossed out in favor of someone who's affiliated with those in charge.

How people drive comes from a lack of education and enforcement of rules already on the books. Being a poor country a lot of things are allowed, those in charge knowing the people would not survive inspections and licenses for restaurants on the streets. Police look the other way because of the lack of care for the people themselves, along with low wages having them not going the extra mile.

Hopefully the new government will turn things around I hope the military form an alliance with Anutin, No future in leftism
