President Donald Trump reportedly now wants his proposed “Independence Arch” in Washington, D.C., to soar 250 feet tall, more than twice the height of the Lincoln Memorial and towering over the White House.

Set to rise near the Potomac River, the proposed arch would dramatically outsize both the White House, which stands about 70 feet tall, and the Lincoln Memorial, roughly 100 feet. The Post’s sources said Trump often cites “250 for 250” to justify the height as a tribute to the nation’s milestone anniversary.

In a statement to The Independent, White House spokesperson Davis Ingle said, “The Arch is going to be one of the most iconic landmarks not only in Washington, D.C., but throughout the world. President Trump’s bold vision will be imprinted upon the fabric of America and be felt by generations to come. His successes will continue to give the greatest Nation on earth — America — the glory it deserves.”

However, architects and preservationists are concerned that bigger isn’t better, warning that such a towering structure could dominate the historic landscape and overwhelm the capital’s carefully designed memorials.

Is the photo indicative of what he wants? I mean, does he really want DC to have a (bigger) copy of the Arc de Triomph in Paris? Not very original, if that's the case..

Based on proposals from late 2025 and early 2026, Donald Trump has proposed building a large, Paris-inspired "Arc de Trump" near the Arlington Memorial Bridge and Lincoln Memorial. Trump indicated the structure will be designed to evoke the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, with claims it will even "blow it away" in scale and design, aiming for completion around the US 250th anniversary in 2026. 

Given that we are now one month into 2026, and the money taps will almost certainly be turned off in November, he had better get a bit of a move on!

The entire world should boycott the white supremicist, racist, facist Americans. They are a disease that can only be cured by quarantine and eradication. Only decent, humane nations who have never been racist and colonialist powers should be permitted to have arches, like France, Germany and England.

He won't live long enough to build it. Talk all you like, maybe make some drawings, this will go the same way as the Trump ships.

We don't want an arch. We are however contemplating erecting a statue to Donald Trump in Parliament Square, as our contribution to the 250 year anniversary celebrations. It will complete a triumvirate:

George Washington - he never told a lie.

Harold Wilson - he never told the truth.

Donald Trump - he doesn't know the difference.
