2 Federal Agents Named in Fatal Shooting of Pretti

Featured Replies

Shocking Twist in Minneapolis Tragedy

Two federal agents have been named in the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti in Minneapolis. ProPublica reports that government documents identify the shooters as Jesus Ochoa, a border patrol agent, and Raymundo Gutierrez, an officer with Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

The tragic confrontation unfolded last weekend, leaving Pretti dead and igniting a firestorm of protests. Calls for criminal investigations into federal immigration actions have surged. The Trump administration's false claims about the incident have added fuel to the fire.

Both agents were involved in Operation Metro Surge, a sweeping immigration enforcement drive launched in December. Armed, masked agents, including Ochoa and Gutierrez, were part of a citywide operation in Minneapolis.

Despite public outcry, CBP has refused to release the agents' names or further details. The agency’s silence has only intensified scrutiny, especially since this occurred days after another agent shot a protester, Renee Good. The secrecy around Pretti's death highlights the contentious debate over Trump’s immigration policies.

Lawmakers across the aisle are now demanding transparency. They’re pushing for a thorough investigation into Pretti's killing. At 37, Pretti was an ICU nurse at a Veterans Affairs hospital, a fact that adds to the tragedy.

This week, CBP informed select Congress members that two agents fired Glock pistols in the incident. However, the agents' names were omitted. The Department of Homeland Security, overseeing CBP, disclosed that Ochoa and Gutierrez are on leave.

Public protests and increasing lawmaker pressure have resulted in the justice department launching a civil rights investigation.

Records reveal Ochoa started with CBP in 2018, while Gutierrez joined in 2014. Gutierrez is part of a special response team for high-stakes operations. Both hail from south Texas, trained for challenging missions.

Key Takeaways

  • Two agents identified in Pretti’s shooting.

  • CBP maintains silence, drawing criticism.

  • Justice department opens civil rights probe.

Better then than now. If they had a trial now it would be a farce and they would be acquitted or pardoned.

Jesus Ochoa and Raymundo Gutierrez?

The word "quisling" comes to mind!

Gutierrez and Ochoa (untrained) keep those masks on, your days are filled with apprehending your own......😉

A presidential pardon can be issued before charges are filed, during proceedings, or after conviction.

I'm sure there are state charges that could be applicable and not pardonable.

Under a non-Trump administration, yes. Otherwise...

Oh, so it wasn't Frank and Jesse James?

Strange that, unlike when a crime is committed in the UK by someone from an ethnic minority, nobody's jumped in with, "Those aren't American names."

Both the shooters, Jesus Ochoa, a Border Patrol agent, and Raymundo Gutierrez, an officer with Customs and Border Protection (CBP), obviously have similar origins to Trump’s intended targets.

Doesn’t history tell us that another authoritarian leader likewise relied on members of the targeted group to enforce repression?

The term was kapos.

Maybe it's time to let ICE do their job of deporting criminals?

As with the Good case, if the state charged the 2 officers in Pretti shooting with state criminal charges, the first thing the defense would do is motion to have the case moved to federal court and plead immunity.

That clearly illustrates the issue: the way the deportations are executed.

No, it goes to show the left don't really care about criminals being deported, this is all about their insatiable hatred of Trump.

If he found the cure for cancer you'd want him impeached for overpopulating the planet.

You know, no one heard about the deportations by former presidents. I suspect that's because they were done with due diligence, habeas corpus, court review and appeal--proper procedure. Were any of the former deported sold to prison in El Salvador or sent to third countries? Were any of those deported US citizens, immigrants or refugees in legal process?

What's shameless is the brutality of these raids, terrorizing neighbourhoods. The two ICE shooters were not thugs. They were both trained agents for a decade. But they knew, in the present authoritarian climate, they could act with immunity for impunity.

I doubt they'll see a jail cell. Might lose jobs & pensions.

This isn't the 'gotacha' moment I think you think it is.

0 protests/Riots for the other 3 purely because they didn't use jacked-up, ill-trained, perpetually masked, overly agression idiots and their enforcement didn't kill 2 American citizens in broad daylight.

You couldn't be more right. And this demonstrates Trump's unique ability to transform a routine activity into something controversial and hated by a significant segment of the population, solely because of his inflammatory rhetoric.

He has deported a fraction of the illegal immigrants deported by his predecessors, and already a large portion of Americans are against him.

Only 1.5 million deportations, and listening to him, it sounds like he's the only US president to have seriously addressed the issue. What a clown!

Trump would be wise to keep his mouth shut and do the job the American people elected him to do. Americans have little patience for charlatans, and I am sure we'll see that in November.

The motives behind the Liberal faux outrage have been well and truly exposed and you know it. 😄

Maybe they couldn't handle and just snapped in the Minnesota cold.

That is very much in line with ICE's recruitment objective. Recruitments leaned to appeal to white nationalists and far-right extremists with aggressive patriotic imagery. Even feature Uncle Sam at a crossroad. Proud ICE boys.

Enrique Tarrio is a Latino and Proud Boys is labelled as white supremacist who hold believes that white people are inherently superior and should dominate other races. White nationalists have the same believes but go further for a whites only country. Both ideologies are linked calling for white surpremacy.

There's nothing 'faux' about being outraged that 2 American citizens were gunned down by these goons. The fact that you seem to be ok about it is much more worrying.

See attached photos of ICE agents before Trump and from now. Notice something different?
