Activists cleared of aggravated burglary.

Featured Replies

“All six were acquitted of aggravated burglary, which carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment, and jurors found Rajwani, Rogers and Devlin not guilty of violent disorder.”

The jury deliberated for 36 hours and 34 minutes but could not reach verdicts for charges of criminal damage against any of the six defendants.”

Cue all the "two-tier' justice nonsense from the right!

The GBH charge against Corner will likely (and rightfully) result in a re-trial.

Police body cam recordings entered as evidence showed Corner attacking a female police officer with a sledgehammer, and fracturing her spine. The inability to obtain a conviction when there was unambiguous physical evidence suggests that the prosecution was incompetent and/or there was jury bias. Sometimes juries can be biased because of their composition. This truly was a jury of the accused's peers and worked in favour of the defendants. Sometimes it works the other way and innocent people are convicted.

A polling of jury members will be revealing. How many held anti Israeli and/or anti police views? Unless the prosecution can demonstrate an error in law, or that the jury was tainted, the decision of the jury must be respected.

The best option now is to pursue civil action against these people and to garnish their benefits payments.

The usual: 'I don't like a verdict so I discredit it'.

The usual bias that prevents your considering the facts as presented. What do you object to?

Police body cam recordings entered as evidence showed Corner attacking a female police officer with a sledgehammer, and fracturing her spine. True or False?

The inability to obtain a conviction when there was unambiguous physical evidence suggests that the prosecution was incompetent and/or there was jury bias. To disagree with this is to say that the evidence was not specific (see above). A jury that excuses an obvious illegal violent action either did not have the charges properly explained and supported and/or held a bias.

This is an acknowledged characteristic of juries. Are you saying it is not a characteristic?

This is often done after the fact in contentious verdicts and can highlight poor prosecution or defense strategy, and/or inherent bias of the jury that was not identified or was unchallenged by the prosecution or defense counsel.

Unless the prosecution can demonstrate an error in law, or that the jury was tainted, the decision of the jury must be respected.

This is an acceptance of the verdict as rendered unless the two conditions of appeal are supported. Do you disagree?

The injured party who suffered the vandalism, and the police officer who was gravely injured can seek some form of justice by pursing the attackers by way of civil litigation. Are you opposed to people seeking justice through the courts?

So one of the most biased people against Palestinians is accusing the jury of being biased in their favour.

You are quite right, but I think you are referring to the litigious US system. Nevertheless, this was a terrible action to protests wholly nonviolent. I think it more appropriate to take up a Go Fund Me for the officer. She was off-duty for three weeks so hopefully the injury was not more serious.
