Silver Bars and the VAT. Look before.

Featured Replies

A number of coutries levy a VAT tax on Silver bars. (Considered strictly as a"industrial metal").

Example: In my home country, in addition to the bid/ask price, a VAT of 8% applies. That means that a 1kg Silver Bar would have to rise 30% to reach break-even price currently.

Before buying Silver Bars, it is advisable to check if there applies a VAT Tax in your country of residence.

Yeah better to buy shares

Not seen a pure Silver play as far as stocks are concerned. Silver is mostly a by-product of copper mining. Linked to the US$. I'd rather not.

Bigger miners pay dividends. That provides a hedge to falls in prices and diversified miners have reduced risk.

This silver boom is overhyped.

Yes big miners have a reduced downward risk and limited upward potential. Diversicifation until it hurts. All priced in US$. Unfortunately.

At 50, I would not be a buyer. I hold no more assets connected with the US$ whatsoever.

Nor connected to the British Pound.

Everything connects with the USD as commodity prices trade in it.

Yes overhyped. But it corrected nicely. At current prices one may want to "nibble" a bit on the cake, as long as the "fundamentals" remain positive.

"Peak buyers" have sold voluntary or were forced out of the market (margin calls).

A classic: "Weak hands" have sold to "strong hands". The stuff "bottoms" are made of.
