A 22-year-old Chinese man is in critical condition after falling from the fourth floor of a hotel in Pattaya in the early hours of 8 February 2026, prompting a police investigation amid suspicious circumstances. The incident has drawn attention due to the presence of iron grilles on the balcony and the behaviour of a group claiming to be the victim’s friends, who attempted to block media and police access.

At 03.05am on 8 February 2026, the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Rescue Radio Centre in Pattaya received a report of a person falling from a height inside a hotel in the Na Kluea area, Bang Lamung district, Chonburi province. Police from Bang Lamung Police Station and rescue volunteers were dispatched to the scene.

Responders found the injured man, identified as a Chinese national aged 22, lying in a pool of blood on the ground after falling from the fourth floor of the building. He had sustained severe injuries, and rescue workers provided initial first aid before urgently transferring him to hospital for further treatment.

According to police and witnesses, a group of more than ten people, both Thai and Chinese, arrived at the scene claiming to be friends of the injured man. The group displayed hostility towards journalists, shouting insults and allegedly pushing members of the media while questioning their presence. Hotel security staff intervened to defuse the situation, after which the group dispersed, but they refused to allow police to inspect the hotel room from which the man reportedly fell, without a warrant.

Investigators noted that the fourth-floor balcony was fitted with tightly secured iron grilles, raising questions about how the injured man could have exited the room. No witnesses were able to explain how he managed to pass through the metal barrier, or the reason for doing so. Some bystanders speculated that the man may have been intoxicated or attempting to flee from an unknown situation before falling.

A hotel security guard told police that he heard a loud noise resembling an object hitting the ground and rushed to investigate. He then discovered the injured tourist below the building and stated that, given the layout of the balcony and the iron grilles, such an incident appeared difficult to occur accidentally and seemed impossible.

Police from Bang Lamung Police Station have photographed the scene for evidence and coordinated with an investigative team to establish whether anyone in the hotel room was involved or if the incident was an accident. Officers are reviewing CCTV footage within the hotel and will seek legal access to the room to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the fall.

Surprised under the circumstances the police didn't force entry due to the "suspicious" nature of the fall......

Given his age and the ladies available in Pattaya, he may've been on the nest that much he thought he could fly.

Thailand itself has one of the highest road fatality rates in the world could the same also be said about Pattaya having one of the highest balcony fall fatality rates in the world?

Why is that, and why are we reading about people falling off balconies nearly every day here? Very odd. It would seem that one of the reasons could be the fact that balcony railings seem to be built to a lower standard here, and they seem to be much lower than in many other countries, but there have to be a multitude of other reasons.

Seems drugrelated to me.

Does it? What indications were there to support your assertion, apart from precisely none?

A "mystery" my foot. Either mafia related or the long arm of the CCP.

Unpaid Mahjong debt or similar. An irascible race those Chinese.

Well since we are expected to do some wild speculation here...... perhaps he was trying to get in, not out!

Maybe they didn't have the right tools on their motorcycles to force enter the room....
