Been great holiday weather the last 4 weeks, almost no rain, sunny with some light clouds. Really can't see this weather continuing much longer.

Dark clouds and heavy rain arrived late last night. Might last a while.

  • 2 weeks later...

My Lil Gal tells me it has been raining for days.

I'll be there in about 6 weeks.

You guys better do sumfin about it.

More like very short rain showers, with quite nice weather much of the day. That's what I see in Kata.

She is in Karon.

Funny ya know, we will make trip from Chalong to Patong for a day out, all clear and sunny.

On the return, over the hilss to Karon and Kata, it rains, without fail, every trip, every year.

Going down past Green Man, all clears up.

Guess I am not welcome in Karon & Kata..........grrrrrrrr

Yep, the rainy season proper arrived about two weeks ago. Current forecast is for rain every day for at least the next week. As I speak type, it's overcast with rain threatening.

Update on Chalong Circle by Phuket Gazette

Highways Office chief told to speed up Chalong Circle removal

PHUKET CITY: Phuket Vice-Governor Worapoj Ratthasima has told Saroj Suwinchai, the chief of the Phuket Provincial Highways Office, and Paiboon Upatising, president of the Phuket Provincial Administration Organization (OrBorJor), to get going on removing Chalong Circle.

At the monthly Governor Meets Press meeting at Provincial Hall yesterday, V/Gov Worapoj said, “It’s too old and not attractive for people who pass by and see it. I need to make it better.

“Also, there are serious traffic jams there in the morning and evening. So it should be done quickly.” V/Gov Worapoj said.

Khun Saroj explained that he had first to apply to the OrBorJor for permission to remove the roundabout, including the large fountain that is the centerpiece of the circle, as the OrBorJor had paid for it, and thus it was the OrBorJor’s property.

“The OrBorJor has now given us permission to remove it. But when I went to inspect the roundabout, I saw that the fountain is about three meters wide and made of concrete and steel. So now we are looking for a way to remove it,” he said.

However, V/Gov Worapoj said, “I have asked K. Paiboon and he has agreed to remove it, but I still need you both [saroj and Paiboon] to co-ordinate the budget required and get it done.”

K. Worapoj also told the press that the OrBorJor were co-ordinating with the Srisoonthorn Tambon Administration Organization (OrBorTor) to expand the road around the Heroines’ Monument by six meters.

“It will be good for traffic because every car must pass at that monument to come to Phuket. The OrBorJor has given about 10 million baht to Srisoonthorn OrBorTor for the project.

“However, they have encountered a problem and are now in negotiations with a private landowner there,” V/G Worapoj said.

He added that the Srisoonthorn OrBorTor will soon receive 27 million baht to install roadside drainage ditches along Thepkrasattri Rd from the Heroines’ Monument to Koh Kaew.

“We need to fix the flooding problems there, which happen often after it rains. The budget has been approved by the provincial committee and will soon be given so the project can be started,” he said.

I like the Chalong Circle fountain.... :o

Roundabouts are great, just the idiot and inconsiderate drivers that cause traffic jams.

Is that less than 90% here?

Thanks for the update Kata. Wellington's point is well made - without the idiot drivers, there would be no problems at the Chalong Circle (because there'd be little or no traffic)...

There is a fred min here saying the lights will be running soon.

Once more, seeing will be believing.

Will be in Chalong am, 16th Oct.

I suppose it's been posted elsewhere, but (in case it hasn't) some workmen demolished the fountain a couple of days ago. Not too much to be fussed about - it was really only an oversized birdbath...

C'mon the Silver Ferns WED.

C'mon da Warriors, Friday.

C'mon da SAINTS, weneva......LOL

So the roadwork (to make the Circle a cross intersection) will probably be completed by the time you get here, Pete.

Ping, Camberwell Junction, wot ya reckon for Chalong......LOL

Imagine trams on Phuket?

To bring up a new subject;

has anyone else been ripped off in the "post Office" on the second floor in Central

We normally post from Kata ,where a birthday card in an envelope will cost 24bht to Europe

The same in Central last week was 43bht

If you complain you will be told

"It's a service charge"

One hel_l of a rip off if you ask me.

I don't think you should think too much about 19 baht ( 30p ) . If you were sending from Europe to Thailand the cost would be far greater and you would have to wait in a long line for the pleasure .

And you expect these agents to supply a service for free ? If you want to save the charge then go direct to a proper post office.

I wouldn't mind seeing them run the rail line down to here...

Ping, it would be great, o/nite from Bangers, airlines may not agree.

The economic benefits to Phuket would be immense.

Have to terminate at Chalong, via Phuket Town, flat all the way.

Patong, Karon and Kata, too many hills, eliminate need for tunnels.

Let's start a campaign....... :o

RAIL 4 PHUKET...NOW

The Ferns lost. A good start! :o
