Agreed, this is a terrible thing to happen, imagine how his poor family feels. Let's not trivialize this event by quibbling over poor grammar on the part of the publishing newspaper, thanks.

No stone-throwing event is trivial.

Coming from Belfast, I have seen far more than my fair share of buses being attacked and breeze blocks being thrown from motorway bridges as well. I myself was in a bus near Ardoyne (a famous Belfast flashpoint) many years ago and not a single window of the double decker was intact after the attack. A fuc_king mess.

A sad and pointless death indeed.

Requiescat in pace

RIP

From the pictures and reports in the Thai newspapers, the poor child received a terrible head injury from the stone. It wasn't a robbery attempt as the motorcycle just kept on going. Let's hope they catch them/him quickly. (Report in Thai Rath said there was just one person on the motorcycle).

Father of Rock-Throwing Victim in Phetchburi Still Grieving

Sadness engulfs the atmosphere during the first night of the funeral of the boy who is the latest victim of a rock-hurling incident in Phetchburi province. Officers of the police investigative team launch a full search for the alleged teenage offender who they believe is a member of a local gang.

The atmosphere at the funeral of Anupong Sainampetch or Mos, the victim of the rock-throwing incident, at Kasemsutharam temple in Ta Yang district of Phetchburi province, was filled with grief. Only relatives and neighbors attended the ceremony which was guarded and facilitated by more than ten officers from the Ta Yang provincial police station.

Anupong's father, Sanit expressed his gratitude to all helpers, including the media, for presenting his son's story, which could awaken society to be more serious in resolving and preventing future crimes. He also admitted that he is unable to cope with the sudden loss and vowed never to drive trucks again, saying he has decided to become a farmer instead.

As for progress in the case, officers from the investigating team, together with officers from the Phetchaburi provincial police, are tracking down the offender following a possible lead. They said that the rock-hurler may be a member of a local teenage gang from Kao Yoi district and insisted they were working fast to bring the culprit to justice

Father's grief as 13-year-old dies after rock is hurled through windscreen

A Phetchaburi motorcycle-riding teenager has caused the death of a 13-year-old passenger in a pickup vehicle. The pillion-riding killer is alleged by Sanit Saipetch to have hurled a fist-sized rock though the windshield of his vehicle.

His 13-year-old son Anupong was struck on the head. He died later at Phra Chomklao Hospital in Phetchaburi. Saipetch says he saw a teenager pillion passenger hurl the rock as the youths rode south on Phetkasem Road.

"It smashed the windshield and hit my son on the head," Sanit says. "I pulled over immediately."

The distraught 45-year-old father says Anupong's skull was shattered. :D

"I was so shocked for a moment. Then I called for help," Sanit says. Police have recovered the rock. Phetchaburi police commissioner Lt-General Worapong Chiewpreecha says they are looking for the suspects.

How very sad. My deepest condolences to the family and friends.

I am also very sad that the police can't actually go out and enforce laws rather than sitting in a police box somewhere. Their mear presence can help prevent this type of stuff.

What is sad is that this stuff is allowed to go on for so long. Young teenage boys have a tendency to get involved in some really stupid stuff--everything from rock throwing to the rather benign spray painting of graffitti. It takes a police presence to deter this sort of thing. Unfortunately, what for the motorcycle baffoons is the thrill of a smashed window can also cause a life--and in this case it did.

I have seen the police 'ignore' so many smaller, but yet possibly deadly things that could save a life--an example of this is the countless times I've seen motorcyclists pop "wheelies" on the street, in site of the police, who do nothing. No doubt, some of these guys are the same ones with paint marks on the road eventually.

So much of this is about enforcement. For the family, it is a terrible and irreversible loss.

Police given two days to catch deadly rock thrower

PHETCHABURI : The provincial Governor yesterday gave police a two-day deadline to arrest the person who threw a rock at a truck, killing a 12-year-old boy inside the vehicle with his father. Governor Sayumporn Limthai said local police had been given two days to bring the culprit to justice. The suspect, believed to be a teenager, hurled a rock about 15cm in diameter at a 10-wheel truck travelling along a road on Sunday. The rock went through the truck's windscreen and hit Anupong ''Nong Moss'' Sainampetch, 12, on the head. The boy was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead. The seventh-grader at Ban Nong Yao school was spending the second day of his summer break :D riding with his father in the truck when he was hit by the rock. The attack took place as Mr Sanit was driving home after delivering sugar cane to a factory. The Governor yesterday called a meeting with local leaders to discuss setting up a war room to hunt down the suspect. He offered a reward of 50,000 baht to anyone who could provide information leading to the arrest of the culprit. Pol Lt-Gen Vorapong Chiewpreecha, the Police Region 7 commander, said the hunt would focus on areas near the scene. According to a police investigation, rock throwing was rampant in the area. :o:D

Is there a follow up story yet in English? I believe the Thai news is reporting the rock thrower was a 36 year old man who killed himself when he found out the news. Apparently he was angry at his wife and threw the rock and left a suicide note explaining himself. I'm sure this has nothing to do with the 2 day deadline from the governor considering witnesses claim the rock was thrown by teenager(s) :o . Such a tragedy :D

Very sad story to lose anyone like this. Seems as if the motivations back home when "kids" do this thing (throwing rocks at windshields along freeways) is motivated more by trend and peer pressure rather than a dire need to steal a vehicle and make way with it.

PHETCHABURI KILLING

'Rock thrower' kills himself

Suicide note says suspect had mistakenly killed boy out of frustration

A man suspected of the rock-throwing attack that killed a 13-year-old boy committed suicide in Phetchaburi's Muang district yesterday.

Panom Inthakul, 37, died by drinking poison (lannate mixed with beer) in a hotel room at the Happy Inn Hotel yesterday morning.

Near his body was a suicide note saying he did not mean to hurt anyone, but that he had had a fight with his wife.

A neighbour and relative told police that Panom had told him earlier that he was involved in the attack that caused 13-year-old Anupong Saipetch's death from serious head injuries on Sunday.

Panom had said he had thrown a rock at the teenager out of frustration due to family pressure at home, the relative said.

Police have not confirmed whether Panom was the one who injured and killed Anupong.

Police Region 7 commander Worapong Chewpreecha has dispatched officials to investigate if Panom was the man wanted in the recent manhunt.

Anupong sustained fatal head injuries after an unknown man, riding pillion on a motorbike, threw a fist-sized rock into his father's 10-wheel truck as he drove along Phet Kasem Road in Muang Phetchaburi.

So throwing a rock at a human being becuse your wifey is angry makes things better? (deflecting blame) Then killing your self in someone's rental property that now know one will want to let because of the "ghost" will make things better.

Such consideration... at least he left a note.

May the 13 yr old boy RIP... so sad, for him and his family.

Suicide note confesses to killing boy

PHETCHABURI : A man who committed suicide in a hotel room yesterday left a note saying he had thrown a rock at a truck, killing a 12-year-old boy inside the vehicle. The man, identified as Panom Intakun, 37, was found dead in a room at the Happy Inn in Phetchaburi. Beside his body was a glass containing traces of a poisonous substance, which is believed to have killed him. Provincial police had been searching for the person who threw the rock at the 10-wheeled truck. A letter found in the hotel room is believed to have been written by Panom before his suicide. In it, he said he threw the rock which hit the truck but did not intend to kill anyone. Panom said in the letter that he often quarrelled with his wife and had been upset by this for a long time. He went out on a motorcycle on Sunday, throwing rocks he collected in order to "unleash my emotions." After he learned of the boy's death from news reports, Panom said, he had been very distressed and decided to

After being given a 2 day dead line to find the culprit I wonder if a hand writing expert will be bought in to do a check on the note?

Just a thought. :o

anyway, wasted lives all round.

RIP

I doubt it. Nevermind, loose ends all tied up; faces saved; deadlines met; etc.

I think I know who the real culprits may be, however...

This really seems to need some full investigation. It seems very, very strange that a 37 year old would be throwing rocks. This act is extremely juvenile and most likely would end in the early to mid twenties. If he is the actual perpetrator, there should be some other indicators of mal-adjustment and a possible history of criminal behavior. People that are immature enough to throw rocks at perfect strangers don't seem likely to be the type of commit suicide. Could be, but seems like a thorough investigation is in order.

Seems to me to just the type to commit suicide. Obviously life is trivial to this individual, if this person is willing to throw a rock the size of a fist directly into the front windshield of a moving vehicle (because wifey is angry) suicide doesn't seem much of a stretch.

Yes I thought the same. Sounds to me like a quick 'solution'. Or should I say 'another one' Thai authorities are good at this. A comparison of his hand-writing would be in order. But like most things here that's laughable..Seems they've closed the case on another one.

More trucks attacked with rocks

Three trucks were damaged in rock-throwing attacks yesterday in the latest in a spate of similar incidents. All 3 trucks had their windscreens smashed by rocks while travelling along highway 41 in Nakhon Si Thammarat yesterday. No injuries were reported. The drivers of the 18-wheel trucks took turns filing complaints at Na Bon police station yesterday. The truckers were targetted by rock throwers in the same area, but all decided not to stop for fear of being robbed. They drove on and reported the incidents to police when they reached the Na Bon station. Police inspector Worakit Leewangsri said the drivers did the right thing by not pulling over. Police said they had not found any clues as to who was responsible and that the rock throwers could be robbers or copycats as several similar attacks had been reported recently. Police said patrols would be stepped up on the route. A 12-year-old boy was killed just over a week ago when a rock was thrown through the windscreen of his father's truck, hitting him in the head.

They were looking for a teenager to begin with.

So, can`t solve the case, wait for a suicide, plant a note, case solved. :o

And this from the murder of the poor Swedish girl killed on the beach.

''According to policem Akaradej said he killed Hanna, 27, because he was suffering family stress. ''

They wear the same uniform, I guess they share the same lame excuses and techniques to quickly solve cases.
