The PTT Exploration & Production Public Company or PTTEP is preparing to conduct explorations for petroleum in the Andaman Sea at the concessioned wells A 4/48, A 52/48 and A 6/48., The information was made known by PhangNga vice governor Prachuab Incharoensak who explained that the sites are in the Andaman Sea near the coastal provinces of Ranong, Phang-Nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang and Satun. The concessionaire however needs to carry out environmental impact before making an exploration while a public session with stakeholders must also be carried out. According to the Vice Governor, the company must provide information, project detail, operation processes, as well as measures to prevent and resolve impacts and local benefits to the local people. PTTEP is a company dedicated to provide a sustainable petroleum supply to the country.

MiniVDO: PTTEP arranged a public session to inform and seek local residents’ opinions on its plan to explore petroleum sources in the Andaman Sea.

http://thainews.prd.go.th/newsenglish/prev...php?news_id=249

The PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP) will carry out a 2D seismic survey over approximately 68,820 square kilometers to explore for petroleum sources. This would be at block A4/48, A5/48 and A6/48 off the coast of Andaman in south Thailand. Last Friday the company arranged a public session to explain to related officials and residents on the information, plan, impacts and measures, local benefits as well as to listen to their initial views. The company’s External Relations Manager Mr.Sidhichai Jayant said the company plans to start the exploration at the end of this year with about 5.5 million US dollar funding. He said the seismic survey would take around 3 years, and after that drilling which should take around 5-6 years. He further stated that local benefits would be taxed and that it would enable Thailand to have more energy sources. On the local side, Prateep Na Thalang, chairman of a local fishing group in Chalong, said they do not oppose the project, but suggest a wide range of publicity so that people can learn of the operation.

I used to know a few drillers and tool pushers who worked in the Gulf of Siam in the late 70’s and early 80’s I think from Union Oil that told me that because the concession was only to find natural gas that’s all they would look for but sometimes or most the time they told me that oil was everywhere and they would cap it and move on with the secret GPS location in their possession.
