I understand the country will be observing funeral rites for Princess Galyani during mid-November for a number of days. Apparently many Thai people will be wearing black. I understand nightlife venues will be shut during this time, but can we expect other closings, such as general business activities?

No, only this thread. :o

I guess there is never a holiday for snideness. Its actually a serious question because I am considering traveling during this period.

Snideness? I thought you had a sense of humour. My bad.

I am also interested in knowing what will be closed and when, for how long etc.

Probably a good thing the high season will be a bit lower. Probably lots of unhappy folks, especially if it's unexpected.

Found this on the web.. http://photojourn.wordpress.com/2008/09/15...ys-in-november/ a very good read about the whole ceremony.

For the first three days of the Thai royal cremation ceremony Thai people will wear mourning black, while entertainment venues throughout the country have been requested to stop their programs, or reduce them in line with the somber occasion.

But I suspect a more formal announcement will be made closer to the date.

Any update on this? My band is booked up north for the weekend of Nov 14-15, and I understand the ceremonies take place in Bangkok take place between the 14th and the 19th. We've asked the club owners and they don't know anything either.
