Considering the wife and boy are meant to be flying in on Tuesday, what are your thoughts?

I know, I know, there are numerous threads in News, but have you began to read them? One informed post, two inane, another good post, three banal, almost contemptuous rubbish horsehockey based on rabid opinion.

So wadda think, honestly I want to know, without having to wade though treacle to find something worthwhile.

It will help our decision making process in the next couple of days.

Thank you

Moss

Pick an alternate arrival airport if possible.

Depending on your location (and where they are departing from), they may be better off flying in to Phuket, Chiang Mai or Udon Thani, and then taking alternate methods of transport from there.

I'm supposed to be fly in in next Wednesday.

If the flight gets diverted to Utapau (sp?) that suits me fine... closer to home.

:o

I think the airline and/or AoT will have the final say but, if it were me, I'd be looking seriously at either a reroute or a delay but defer decision time until Friday (or as late as you can). Government house was one thing but, whatever the just causes behind the protests, the PAD cannot be allowed to blockade the airport effectively holding a large part of the nation to ransome. The real unknown quantity is just how are the authorities going to get them out if negotiations fail?

It all depends on how quickly the leadership of PAD gets it that they have gone too far this time and will rapidly lose any public support they may have. That and just how much control the leadership have over the mob they created (hope it's more than Dr Frankenstein).

What decision do you need to make?

Oh crap......... sorry Moss, I was late arriving home last night and didn't see any news and then was otherwise occupied this morning, I only caught up with the airport situation in the last hour.

As Phil says, hold any decision off until Friday, I can't see this occupation continuing until then...... the damage done to Thailand as a tourist destination however, will last much longer.

(and people flying in and out on business, and import/exports........... cretins all)

Not sure if the Yellow team will decamp from Swampy until the PM announces his (alternative?) travel plans / arrival from Peru.

Anyone know if the Bangkok 100 Rock Festival will go ahead (with the foreign headline acts) this weekend? No official news from the organizers yet... :o I would imagine the main acts would give the place a wide berth now...?

No worries, I thought it a bit of a strange comment.

I was hoping for some good feed back and have got that, I am not sure an alternative airport is viable, but hadn't thought of that, so will hit the phones rght away, so thanks again.

Any further updates you hear, I would be most appreciative.

Moss

Recieved an update from TAT, it says that Swampy will be open by 6pm today and they do not expect any further problems.

However what airline are they flying on??? Alot of airlines are cancelling service to Swampy. Some for up to a week.

OK, here me mans take on the whole situation, not just the airport.

"at times like this, people dont care about people" :D

We were discussing our trip in march, the flights for which can be paid for at end of December. We are going out with my mum, step dad, aunt, uncle & their 2 grow up kids. This is an expensive trip for everyone & we are supposed to be having our wedding party too. So last night made the descision to hold off paying for anything else until end of January.

That gives us enough time to get refund on the deposit paid for samui villas & also still time enough to pay for the flights & hopefully by then (?) things will have calmed down enough for us to make that descision. If they haven't, we are cancelling until things do.

Me man is not a doom mounger but has obviously lived through a couple of these already but has not seen them this bad since the student protests in the 80's & is of the opinion that in the current climate both sides are doing silly reckless things & he has no desire to risk either us or my family for the sake of a holiday.

Also his other concern is, we get in & manage to avoid the idiots, have a nice holiday but can we get back out again? The chances of this happeneing again (see how easy it was for them to do once) is a real possibility.

Of course he wants to go home & will be mightly pissed if we do have to cancel so he isn't making flippant descisions based on panic. My other worry is (practical as always) insurance, if she does fly in Moss, check they are still covered. :o

Salivating at the mere prospect, thanks sbk.

It's not the price of the ticket, you cheeky minx; its the travelling to get there. :D Just want to know if I should be arsed or not.

Supposed to be flying back to Vietnam on Sunday 30th November. I have that ticket, bur am looking at a budget airline from U Tapao as well.

For those coming in - a flight viua KL or Changi, changing to Phuket rather than BKK looks to be the sensible way - but the airlines are probably booked fairly solid on those alternatives already.

I have a feeling 6pm might be optimistic, but any further news will be welcomed.

Flying in on EVA and all flights are cancelled up to the 28th

Yup, I will have that covered, presently checking alternative dates, but the Agency has not got back to me yet, I think they might be a little busy!!

Nothing new on TAT website yet.

mmushrOOm, if you hear any further updates I would appreciate it.

:o Thanks ! :( Now I can understand the reason behind your two posts on this Rock festival over :the general forum ,and this one here in Bedlam, and only one other thread in Farang pub-fun forum about the same subject! :D

Hi Moss,

Looking out of me office window (West Runway view) all day to today there has been an errie silence due to "No Planes" landing nor taking off.

Will report back once they do start flying in and out.

Would you or anyone else have a back-up plan in this case? :o Could try and fly to KL and then by train or road to Thailand. :D

Good Luck, to you Moss and your family :D

Yours truly

Yes, it must be eerie.

No back up plan as yet, but working on the Agency, the trip to KL and road or train trip sounds interesting though.

I would like to hear any developments, as soon as you see/hear them thanks.

Thanks for the best wishes, it is a little disconcerting considering they are flying a week a head of me ( possibly ).

Good Luck

Just covering bases.... :D Erm,... Are you stalking me? :D

:burp:

I was supposed to fly tonight....No chance.

Army have told protesters to leave immediately, PM speaking live now saying he will not back down.

The protesters my not wish to harm " innocents " but bombs already thrown within the airport.

I will stay where I am for the time being.

I have an unconfirmed report that the airport will open tomorrow @ 11.00am GMT.

Anyone heard anything??

Moss

Seems optimistic to me.

not heard anything to that effect Moss.

all we see on TV is that the yellow shirts are still camped at the airport in bangkok.

things got violent in ChiangMai when the pro and anti government groups clashed. One man was beaten to dead :o

fortunately I booked my flight departing from phuket (was booked a month prior, not related to this situation, simply thought it was nearer to get to phuket than bangkok from where I was going to be)

has turned out to be a very lucky choice for me

(unless they start to spread to phuket in the hope of adding pressure on the government, but some action need to be taken by friday I think. the cabinet will meet tomorrow afternoon Thai time. lets see what they come up with

good luck...to the family, and also to Thailand :D

Thanks Miggy, but our destiny is somewhat in our control, I am not sure Thailand's destiny is in anyone's control.

Be safe and make the right decisions,

hope to see you soon and I promise to send a pic of the boy,

Good Luck

Moss

Well from the person Im talking to at TAT, they seemed rather miffed that PAD reneged on their promise to vacate the airport by y'day evening. Wonder why they were surprise, PAD reneging on something, no way?? and rather confirm my suspicion that the fix is in from the beghinning.

As an alternative, my company is using Phuket airport to get people out for the country. It means a long bus ride to Phuket but at least they can leave LOS.

So you may consider Phuket as an alternative. Make a holiday of it.

Airport takeover in RP unlikely

By Joel Guinto

INQUIRER.net

MANILA, Philippines -- The chances of anti-government protesters taking over a major airport in the Philippines, similar to what happened in Thailand, is "very remote," Malacañang said Wednesday.

"That is a very remote scenario. Thailand's condition is different from us," deputy presidential spokesman Anthony Golez said.

Asked why he thought such a scenario unlikely, Golez said: "Because our people have reached a high degree of political maturity, whereby our people respect due process and the rule of law."

Thousands of protesters stormed Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport Tuesday, disrupting operations and stranding around 3,000 travelers, as part of efforts to get Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat's government to resign.

The Thai premier is set to return home after attending the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders' Summit in Lima, Peru with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Somchai's government is accused of being a front for ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

Like Thaksin and Somchai, Arroyo has weathered numerous waves of street protests since 2005.

Aside from massive corruption, Arroyo is also accused of cheating her way to a fresh six-year term in the 2004 elections, and for pushing constitutional amendments, supposedly to extend her stay in power beyond the end of her term in 2010.

Arroyo is set to return to the country later this week after attending the APEC summit and going to Colombia for an official visit.

On Wednesday, the President's allies in the House of Representatives justice committee voted to dismiss the latest impeachment complaint against her due to insufficiency in substance.

The pot calls the kettle black.

So what is the consensus, are they going in tonight?

And what is the significance of this?

The prime minister said air force and naval units would be deployed to assist police in ending the protests,

Are the Air Force and Navy more loyal than the Army, does he trust them more? Or am I adding 2 & 2 and making 22.

What's your views on the flights for Tuesday?

Protestors in the Philippines know only full well that any effort to take over government buildings or the airport would be handled with deadly force by the Philippine National Police. Here in the Phils, it is not the rule of law that governs...it is the old adage that he who has the most firepower rules.

:o

I have just heard that EVA are flying into Utapau on Tuesday.

Which is convenient enough for the wife and boy as they can head down to our place in Rayong.

But without wading through treacle on several threads, anyone got an update? Are EVA actually altering routes? is it safe, are people going to move here next?

I have only just heard, so will call tomorrow, but any news would be appreciated.

Cheers
