Did You Ever Hit The "add Reply" Button And Then Wish You Hadn't?

Featured Replies

Now, usually I count to ten before making a reply on a forum and with potentially contentious topics, more often than not by the time I get to ten, I have decided that I shouldn't get drawn in/it's not worth it/it would be better just to keep smiling and ignore it!

Unfortunately, yesterday I was not in the best of moods and having been stuck in the UK away from my home and family in Chiang Mai for some weeks I obviously needed to vent; the return of the "I'm a farang getting ripped off by the Thais" theme just hit the wrong button. My contribution to this thread was not my finest moment on ThaiVisa but I suspect it was not my worst either. I'm going to look back and see what I can find in my post history to compete with this lapse in judgement!

What do you think has been your finest or even most dire moment in your ThaiVisa posting career?

i think it's in the middle of the night with no one else to talk to, apart from my cats, that it hits me. And, of course, i think everything that i post is the most amusing and funny stuff in the world.

Cringe factor comes to mind the next day.

I like the idea of the doing sums before you send an e mail late at night!!!

Yes - wise or witty late at night but come to read it back the next day . . . ouch!

Doing sums, that's the Google check your sobriety method isn't it? Yes, it is, I just found a piece on it here. What if you're excellent at maths but still lacking in judgement after a few too many?!

All of my best and worst posts I've deleted before I ever click the "add reply" button. Some really profound and some disturbing stuff just vanished into cyberspace. As for the rest of my posts, most are pretty forgettable.

Recently, I almost hit the 'add reply' button - after I'd written a rant (distantly related to Thai political quagmire) that suggested every person in Thailand move to Bkk - because Bkk is already messed up - and allow the rest of Thailand to go fallow. In other words, all the news talk is all about people and their self-importance and amassing wealth and power. It never takes in to account the welfare of plants/animals/soil/ ....nature in general - which we share this planet. Indeed, we're just a small part of the equation.

Thailand has long since lost any 'wildness' it once had, and even its rice paddies are getting filled and paved. Wild mammals are something to see on TV or picture books. ....same for other wild species.

So I did it again, but this time I'll click the 'add reply' button.

I've lost count of the number of times that I have hit the red X instead of 'add reply' ..... but the number of times I have hit 'add reply' and then cringed about it in the morning would still fill a shed.

I've mellowed quite a bit in the last few years though, Boo and Mr Boj both know me from a different forum in a previous life (same nic) I used to get regular holidays in there.

(I never understood why calling someone a fat pompous prick got me a 14 day ban, as everyone else that had ever met him knew I wasn't telling any lies :o )

Same, same.

I tend to realize I've made a <deleted> post about an hour later when going over it in my head. Much too late for the edit button. :o

I'm a big fan of clicking the red X button myself, often after having spent upwards of 30 minutes of typing a load of drivel.

Sometimes after a particularly drunken night, I feel the need to scour the forum for a bad post from myself. I have not found a real cringe-worthy one yet.

That is not to say that they where not posted though, maybe they are still there amidst the multitude of threads, or a kindly mod thought it best to delete it on my behalf.

I understand completely. The best advice is to not post if you have had a few. Yeah, like that will happen. There is a more than fair chance that I will probally live to regret this post. BUT, with the amount of libations I have had, (on any given post) guess what..... Often times I wish I had not posted at all, as I know how I rate. Then again I can spew right up there with the rest of them. So, as long as your having fun, it does not really matter. Have fun, post and let the cards fall where they may. We ALL have been in the same boat. It's a small, over crowed boat but ......

It never bothers me, most of the members think I'm a d!ckhead anyway; why disillusion them at this late stage?

Interestingly, after two alcohol free months, I've found I can still insult people with the best of them.

I didn't find you the problem Thaddy. But the pompous legal idjit, was a different kettle if fish.

BTW, we still get the Council Tax discount, that he said we couldn't get.

As for JXP, IMO, i think you should go back into the thread and apologise. Be a man. You started this particular thread cos you know you messed up. Nothing wrong with apologising for it. :o

Self censorship seems to be alive and well with most Bedlamites although I do mourn the loss of lannarebirth's profound and disturbing posts. :o

Sceadugenga's might just be the most cathartic approach, it could be worth considering . . . . maybe!

I have become quite good at not allowing myself to write any email or forum posts if I am under the affluence if incohol but sometimes I still have to learn the cyber-equivalent of biting my tongue.

mrbojangles, I will NOT apologise, if you think I should then you must be mad, come on, give me a break, get a life!! :D:D Actually the regret over those posts was not that I felt I was wrong, I certainly won't be apologising for anything, it is more that I allowed myself to get wound up and by doing so ended up fuelling an unproductive thread.
