Polanski Rape Victim Wants Case Dropped

Featured Replies

The victim in the Roman Polanski statutory rape case has urged prosecutors to drop the decades-old charges against the Hollywood director, court records have revealed.

"I was the 13-year-old girl Roman Polanski took advantage of on March 10, 1977, wrote Samantha Geimer, now a 45-year old mother-of-three.

"I have urged that this matter come to a formal legal end. I have urged that the district attorney and the court dismiss these charges.

"True as they may be, the continued publication of those details causes harm to me, my beloved husband, my three children and my mother. I have become a victim of the actions of the district attorney,'' she wrote in a brief filed with the court today.

Ms Geimer continued: "My position is absolutely clear. Let us deal with the harm and continued harm that the pendency of this matter visits upon me and my family, and waive the legal niceties away, and cause it to be dismissed.''

Lawyers for Polanski, who fled the US to avoid trial, lost a bid last week to have the Los Angeles Superior Court disqualified from hearings stemming from the decades-old rape case.

Finally, something that makes sense. A victim who doesn't want to be a victim anymore and has moved on with her life. Now if everyone will too.

Agreed. Since when does someone who has been sexually abused have to be a victim ?

Good point. I won't be a cynic and muse as to whether a quid was involved in her change of heart...

That's an unusual question.

My personal opinion would be every single time.

I thought that too, but figured I mis-read the sentence.

Edit,

Just re-read the quote and have changed what I thought at the time.

One wonders at the length of the holiday Ulysses G would have received if he had said it. :o

I think also that some sort of financial gain has come out of this. If she had been abused by Joe Bloggs, I don't think it would have hit the news.. But Joe the Plumber.. maybe.

Also, does he really want to go back to the States? He seems quite settled in France or Italy or whereever he is. Has made his money, settled down with kids etc. I, personally, find him to be a little rat of a man - but there are women out there that will do anything for a dollar.

Why this thing has gone on for so many decades is beyond belief. There are far more international strife and poverty stories out there. Another Hollywood crap story in the making does not pay the medical bills of some poor Kenyan family. Who have pride.

A victim in the eyes of the law, yes. But the "victim" label is relevant to the court for only as long as it takes for the court to reach a verdict.

There's no reason that the "victim" has to act or feel as society expects a "victim" to act or feel for the rest of their life.

Unfortunately society seems to expect victims to act as "victims" for the rest of their life.

I hope I've made the distinction clear.

Geez, you rocketed that retort back like an echo, Chimpy. Only six weeks of thinking about it... :o
