My bad,. I am talking about the V40 (estate) not the sedan.

these are going for sub 500k for 2001-2 models and seem to have some really decent specs. especially th 2.0T and 4T models.

i am wondering how expensive are these cars to maintain in thailand. i am willing to overlook that you can buy one of these used for 1/3 of the price in the real world, but they sound like they may be value for money in thailand.

experiences, impressions from ANY Volvo owner would be appreciated.

I had this model in the US. I can't speak for maintenance costs in Thailand, but the reliability was rated rather low by Consumer Reports (US consumer rating system). Lower than you would expect for a Volvo. Got some comments from mechanics: not a REAL Volvo. I am not really a car person but overall my experience of owning that car was less wonderful than I expected when buying it, I am talking here about the subjective driving experience. However, if the price is right ...

Hi :o

Might be the same with all the "4" series.... "not a real Volvo". I used to have a 460 and that's actually, apart from the body, a Renault. Same goes for the 440.

Best regards....

Plenty of online motoring Reviews......... The small Volvo Estate V40......... The only Volvo's I have even owned were 244, 240 and a 264

1 Review, almost all are good

I have had two V40s now and i really enjoyed them both. So much so that i am going to upgrade mine to the latest I can possibly get. I really don't like the V50, its basically a mondeo, and build quality is poor from what I have seen, and looks cheap.

I have done over 170k in my latest V40 on a P plate. Apart from regular servicing at an independant volvo specialist (way cheaper than the main dealer), the running costs have been what I expect, a tyre change every 20k or so. Only main thing I had to replace was my exhaust and catalyst which did cost quite a large sum however. So I hope that my next one will be just as good as this one. looking forward to another 150K plus of happy motoring

As with every older car, buy your own filters and oil, drive to a good small workshop, many car wash places also do this Service while you wait for 80 - 100 baht.. you save at least 600+baht

Anything more major when your driving about you will notice what garage or workshop often has Volvo's or for that matter whatever car you drive in...

As Volvo have a pug in diagnostic plug you could drive to Volvo and get them check it and give an estimate..

Not sure on the V40 if it has, but my Audi does a system check at start up and tells you when a Service is needed, + loads of other things, even tell me to fill the wiper washer bottle before going out if it is low :o
