My son will be visiting from the USA next month and he wants to visit Taipei for a week to see friends. He has both US and Thai passports and will be entering Thailand on his Thai passport. Rather then get a visa in his Thai passport for Taiwan would it be better for him to leave Thailand on his Thai passport and enter Taiwan on his US passport? I think US citizen can enter Taiwan without a visa.

Then why ask if it is true :D ?

Don't know how it works for Thais, but my Vietnamese wife had a very hard time getting the visa; they don't seem to like other Asians visiting their country much :o

I dont know if it's true, that's why I'm asking. I would ask the people at the Taiwanese Economic Office who handle the visa affairs here in Bangkok but after trying to get thru on the phone since before Songkran I gave up. That's why I'm hoping a US passport holder wont need a visa so my son wont have to go thru the hassle of getting ofne in his thai passport. Anyway, thanks for your reply.

This from the US State Department website:

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: U.S. passport holders will be allowed to enter Taiwan without a visa for up to thirty days (no extensions allowed) if they have a passport valid for at least six months from the date of entry into Taiwan and they have a confirmed return or onward air ticket. Travelers must have already met any additional visa requirements for the next destination, if applicable. If the passport is valid for less than six months from the date of entry into Taiwan, travelers may apply for a landing visa that has a duration of stay of no more than thirty days. The processing fee is NT $4,900 (currently equivalent to approximately US $162.00; U.S. currency is not accepted) and no extensions are allowed. Travelers also have the additional option of applying for and receiving a Taiwan visa prior to arrival in Taiwan. The processing fee is US$100.00.

Thanks for the help. So what I'll do is tell my son to leave Bangkok on his Thai passport and use his US passport to enter Taiwan.
