What Is The Hang-up With Clothes?

Featured Replies

Was chastised growing up that unless a company is sponsoring me, I shouldnt wear an item of clothing with an obvious logo. My family are such snobs. :D

my sentiment exactly Eek

brands like LV, Chanel etc - why are we paying ridiculous amount of money to advertise for them? it should be the contrary!

dont get me wrong, some of their designs look good (and of course the quality and workmanship is really good) but they should be subtle about their logos and branding. what are we? some kind of walking billboards?

:)

Some people should be walking billboards...

I always wondered about people like that. They steal from Walmart or second hand shops even though the penalty is the same as stealing from a place that sells good stuff.

Dear Ping,

I understand your frustration of not being able to allow yourself some decent clothing and come up with the excuse of wearing airy cloths like flip flops and sleeveless shirts in a tropical climate.

Call me a snob whatever, but ask your partner who she would choose to date at first sight, a nicely dressed person or one in flip flops and and Hawaii shirt.

Where would you prefer to buy a car? This 2nd hand car dealer that is dressed poorly and selling it's cars from under a palm tree or one that has a nicely decorated showroom and premises?

When I drive to the parking area of some shopping mall, I am always directed to some reserved parking spot, why, because I drive a nice and shiny high class car and wear decent clothes combined with a fashionable hairstyle and handsome looks.

That is why I do my grocery shopping in the higher end malls like Emporium as it will reduce the chance of me being confronted with people dressed in their shorts and flip flops, loading up their cart with just one item for the reason they want to enjoy an air conned environment.

Korea and Japan are great examples of how you should dress, women following the latest fashion trends and the men are always dressed in a suit, no matter what temperature.

Being successful is a choice.

:D

I am kidding, ha ha ha , sure some of you are fuming after reading my initial reply, ha ha ha!

:)

nope Alex, just fuming about wearing out the scroll button. :)

I thought it might have something to do with all that high rise in Singapore.

Har har har, sorry just back from a meeting and dinner.

I was a bit surprised they had my favorite wine in the house, a La Mondotte Saint-Emilion 1996, excellent!

The evening started well with some almas as a starter, splendid choice.

:)

Perhaps they were too busy with their woolly pet's?

From time to time, I've noticed quite a few people commenting upon the singlet and thong (flipflop) wearing folk in Phuket as being the dregs, no-hopers, etc. I may be mistaken, but it seems the loudest critics are the English. I've always held the view that one dresses for one's own comfort - not for the approval of fashion nazis. On a hot day, unless I'm attending an event in which a certain standard of clothing is demanded by the circumstances, I'm most comfortable in cool clothing (as above). (In Phuket, of course, this is most days of the week.) Why do some people insist that people who dress in light, airy clothing suitable to the tropics are low-class, knuckle dragging caravan park dwellers?

I know just what you mean... :)

For me thongs are underwear. Not flip flops. Both very uncomfortable to wear. Blisters.

That photo is frightening. If people think that british people are like that then they have another think coming. Being Irish Scottish i can say these sort of things.

LOL patsy, i never knew of anyone complaining about underwear giving blisters before.. :)

I suppose crotchless could.......no i won't go there :D

It's the little metal studs which cause most of the problems.

Hey PoorSucker, I found a picture of you when you were a teenager:

Too much chattering and monkey business going on around here.

Nice airy clothing, ha ha ha!

Why do some people insist that people who dress in light, airy clothing suitable to the tropics are low-class, knuckle dragging caravan park dwellers? Those same people insist that long trousers, shoes and collared shirts are the least standard of attire for any occasion, while they look down their noses at others between wipes of perspiration from their brows.

Given that I am not referring only to expat business folk doing their B30k/tuppence per month Thai jobs, why is it that some members of TV see the need to suffer in order to pass some perception to those around them? More to the point, why do they have the audacity to berate folk who don't share their ideas of suitable attire? I have my own thoughts on this and I would be interested to see the views of others on this topic.

BTW, the first poster to drag out the old chestnut of 'Clothes maketh the man' will be sent to Nurse Diesel for an extra dose of think-for-yourself pills...

Sorry but I can't be bothered going through the four pages of replies so I'll just add my bit at the risk of repeating someone.

It's not just clothes, there's a whole culture of superiority here on TV from where posters look down on those that they disapprove of. Just before I disappeared into the Mekong Delta back in mid May there was a thread criticising a guy for having a beer around 06:30 in the morning. What the <deleted>'s it got to do with anybody what anyone drinks or wears or listens to or watches on TV or anything else? It is OUR own personal life and, within the law, we are free to lead it as we wish provided it doesn't adversely impact on others.

I see people wearing stuff I wouldn't dress scarecrows in but it's their choice and, let's face it, the world can be a pretty drab place without some eccentrics to liven it up.

I'd rather the world was infested with fashion assassins than the grey business suit brigade, at least I can smile at them over a breakfast beer or two. :)

(thanks for the double post AIS)

I quite often have a beer in the morning on a sunday, even at 0630.

Then I meet up with my work mates at the pub, you know the one, the one we all meet up at on a sunday. I still need to ask directions how to get there. Funny cos I remember how to get home but I have trouble actually getting there.

And I wear shorts, thongs and a t-shirt whilst riding my motorbike.

God, i am such a low life.

Well I am towards the end of my S. E. Asian tour and my NKVD training certificate is out of date and my mentor, Josef Stalin, is turning in his grave.

My re-education is currently scheduled to start July 27. First stage is a vicious blood curdling diet during which I will give up the beer.

Within 24 hours I'll probably be banned for life.

Just before going to bed, huh? Tuky.

Glad to see you wear same safety gear as myself.!!!!!!!!!
