Can St Helens win after four successive runners-up medals, three of them against tonight's opponents, Leeds?

My money would be on Leeds...were I a betting man.

RLEF AUTUMN EUROPEAN TEST SERIES (I think times are local)

Scotland v Ireland - Sunday October 16 - Scotstoun, Glasgow (2pm)

France v Scotland - Saturday October 29 - Gilbert Brutus, Perpignan (3pm)

Ireland v France - Saturday November 5 - Thomond Park, Limerick (8pm)

The Four Nations was on Astro last year, but the timings are not all convenient for those of us round here.

I can confirm Scotland Ireland is not on Astro tomorrow...I don't think the BBC are carrying radio commentary, since they haven't even acknowledged the game in their fixture list. I think the Aus NZ game tomorrow can be heard here: http://www.radiosport.co.nz/

My apologies for the line breaks (in this case I mean newlines or carriage returns) in the post above, which seem all to cock

As the Four Nations draws nearer:

Australia 42-6 New Zealand

in Newcastle

and

Convincing win for Scotland 26-6 over Ireland in Glasgow

Next week England travel to France for their Friday night warm-up match

and the Four Nations kicks off the week after in Warrington w Aus v NZ

Four Nations live on Astro, and repeated at a watchable time as well next Saturday morning... I'm not certain that the England Wales game is on live, but it is repeated on Sunday early afternoon.

I might be going to Warrington on Friday.. I have a job interview so booked the day off. Trouble is, it's in Basingstoke and I don't yet have a time, but if I can fit it in, I'll be on my way up ther after in my suit...

I can just imagine you sweating your way through the interview, with your jersey on under your shirt and tie...

And sweating over trying to impress them while also hoping to wrap things up quickly so I can rush into London..

You could cut across country via Birmingham, but I am not sure if it would be any quicker - depending on where you change in London.

I suppose you could go for a 7.30 arrival, but then you would have to rush a pint on the way; I suppose you could lay a foundation with McEwans Export on the train though - my, that takes me back...

via Birmingham

14:47 Basingstoke [bSK] Platform 3 clear.gif Warrington Bank Quay [WBQ] Platform 3 18:26 3h 39m

Or via London (much more expensive)

15:17 Basingstoke [bSK] Platform 3 clear.gif Warrington Bank Quay [WBQ] Platform 3 18:49 3h 32m

Cutting it fine, but possible...

via Birmingham

15:47 Basingstoke [bSK] Platform 4 clear.gif Warrington Bank Quay [WBQ] Platform 3 19:26

If the interview drags on, ask if they can wind it up in a taxi en route to the station... say you think the job is too important to cut it short. Invite them to the game. Everyone enjoys a good game of rugby.

Thanks. I looked into taking a train, but there's a return coach from London meaning I wouldn't have to find a room.. When I know the time of the interview I'll be able to book something..

I shall be with you, by the miracle of television, and a seven-hour delay, because I'm not staying up till 4 am, even if it is the Halliwell Jones, so I'll watch the repeat. Good luck with the interview. Is it with Special Branch, or CID?

Would be great if it took off in the US. Must be lot's of frustrated gridiron players who'd give it a try if they saw it. Not to mention union players who want to do a bit more running with the ball.

When they failed to qualify in 2008, their coach was complaining that their players were all failed NFL draftees who played league for a year before going to play Canadian football. I have no idea if that story is true, but I doubt I would remember it so well if it was purely a figment of my imagination...

I can't see the game taking off in the US as a live event, due to the lack of advertising space during the game; though perhaps they could go for subliminal messages after every tackle. For the replayed games, they could put an advert in every few tackles with no-one any the wiser, and stretch it out to a two-hour show. Unfortunately, with their emphasis on personalities rather than principles, I worry they might turn it into a pantomime like the wrestling. ...

...

Oh yes, they might!

So have you got your ticket and coach sorted? Give us a wave, I'll be watching at 10.30 the next morning, and I'll be looking out for you.

When I left Warrington, they were still playing at Wilderspoole, but I think the Halliwell Jones is a good, close stadium. Keep an eye out for Steve's daughter Christina, who will probably be there...

Didn't go in the end. Couldn't make the times work out. Will be going to Wembley though. And tomorrow I'm taking minor youtube celebrity 'PhilinBangkok' to his first UK football match.

Just finished watching the game...not a classic; looking forward to the next couple of weeks, and I hope Wales have a good game tonight (tomorrow afternoon on Astro).

I agree with the Australian coach that the play-the-ball was slow, with the defence lying-on...

Can't see any radio commentary for the France Scotland game this evening.

Following the England Wales game on text commentary

Talking of which, I can't find commentary on the France Scotland game anywhere.

EDIT: Here's video coverage, with Jonathan Davies

I take it you'll be going to the games this weekend, t25rw?

I might try and catch commentary to the England Australia game on the internet; it seems neither is on live on the Astro Ordinary channels, and only the NZ Wales game will be repeated, at the crack of dawn tomorrow. I've got no real desire to subscribe to HD, being a fan of content, not format...

I'll be gritting my teeth and hoping England do well; I hope at least that it is a good exciting game and a good advert for the sport.

Meanwhile, in other news, good luck to the Irish when they host France later today.

SC

In the other code, the Scots are in Italy, with Edinburgh at Treviso and Glasgow at Aironi; for the first time today I saw a RoboCopXII game on Astro; normally I just have the French Top XIV to entertain me...

I went. Now I'm trying to figure out how to get back from Leeds on a Saturday night after the final.

I was on the 40m line in one of the posh seats in front of where the England coaches sat and a few feet from Andy Farrell and son..

The NZ game was pretty awful, but Eng-Aus was good. England are a bit lacking in creativity and finishing but were well up for it. The ref was awful though. Really out of his depth.

I hope you enjoyed the game. England NZ should be pretty tense. I hope the final is on Astro...

Have a look at freefootball.org. They had streams for the Aust-NZ game..

It was a good game. England had some bad luck with a poor and inconsistent ref (I support Australia btw) but should make the final as they are a much better team than NZ who only fire when Benji feels like turning it on. If England had a bit more creativity near the line, they'd be a match for Australia.

As a Wests Tigers fan, it was good to see Heighington score one of his trademark tries as well as let Williams score with his trademark defence..

I had one of the best seats in the house.. Big padded thing with leg room on the 40m line. The England coaches were behind me. Andy Farrell was a few feet to the right of me with his son.

Ray French slowly climbed the stairs past me. Looks very old and frail now.

Want to go to Leeds for the final but am finding the same late night transport problems as for Warrington.
