The exhaust sounds amazing. I love it! I put the dB killer back in but it didn't seem to make a difference, so took it back out...

I love the popping it makes down when lifting off the throttle... :)

Just ordered a power commander with the help of Tony. I'm also going to check out removing the in-take baffles from the air-box.

Matt.

Yes - according to Arrow the baffle doesn't make much difference performance wise, but a BIG difference in the sound of the bike. Naturally I think it sounds better with the baffle out :)

Leovince did some dyno testing of airbox mods and determined that pulling the airbox baffles is a very easy way to get an extra couple of hp out of the bike. Can't find the link right now...

While you're pulling the baffles you might as well plug the PAIR valve as it's no longer needed once you remove the stock exhaust.

How to plug the PAIR valve on the Ninja 650R and ER6n:

Pair Valve plugged with silicone caps.

Airbox breather outlet plugged.

0728PAIRValve2.jpg

Exhaust intake plugged.

A view from the airbox to the PAIR valve after plugging both and removing the hose.

Here are the Silicone Caps I used to get the job done-

Quick update on the new no-cut frame sliders for the Ninja 650R- Kawasaki Rama 9 now has a set installed on their demo bike.

Right side:

Left side:

(Looks like the left side has already been 'gently' tested) :)

I should be getting a set of these next week and will take pics of the installation process and post them here asap.

Guys, just another one about adding more performance. I used to tinker about with cars back in the UK. I started with out with an '86 VW Golf GTI MK2 8v as my first car. One of the first things I had done was the cylinder head ported, polished and gas-flowed with titanium valves. It changed the engine and made one hel_l of a difference :) then I added a 2.0 bottom end and 4-branch manifold. It was a little rocket....

Has anyone thought of having this done on their bike? Would it make much difference? Is it possible?

Matt.

There are some companies back in the US that polish and port 650R race engines (Blue Ridge Performance for example) but I'm not sure where in Thailand one could get this done...

I wonder if you could buy another cylinder head from Kawasaki, send it to the states (via a friends suitcase) get it ported and polished there, bring it back and fit it...

I guess it might invalidate your warranty! :)

There should also be room for shaving some off the head to increase compression, since engine presently runs happily on 91ron.

Some new Carbon Fiber bling for the 2009-2010 Ninja 650R!

Slowly but surely just about every single plain plastic part on this bike is becoming available CF cool.gif

The latest:

A friend is painting his 650R in Ducati 848 Pearl White and is going to add these new CF parts to the bike- should look awesome and I'll post up some pics of the bike with these parts installed.

Somebody recently asked me if there are stainless steel headers available for the ER6n and Ninja 650R. I know Arrow makes a full system including headers but I'm not sure if they're stainless.

But I did find a shop here in Bangkok that can polish stock headers and wow- it really looks awesome!

Before:

After:

Of course with time they'll rust again but we're lucky to live in a country where labor is cheap :)

And I live on an island near the ocean, so they will rust again very quick here. They do look good though. How much was the polish?

Has anyone removed their air box baffles yet? I'm thinking of doing this shortly after seeing that video tony posted of the dyno test!

Piece of cake mod and makes a noticeable improvement at the top end-

0728AirBoxBaffles.jpg

Airbox on the left, removed baffles on the right. It's easily reversible- the baffles pull out easily and you can put them back in later if you want to.

In preparation for the forthcoming arrival of the Versys what after market slip-ons are you guys using?Akrapovic looks too big, Yoshi seem to adapt and existing can. With the Versys I will be giving away some top end but thats not what it is about..I realize that choice is a personal thing. I believe I have already made up my mind but.....I could be swayed.

Oh and I also haven't overlooked the local option.

I'd say the choice of can depends a lot on what kind of riding you plan to do- if you really plan to tear around off road and cross rivers with the Versys you probably don't want to spend a lot of money on a can that will take a lot of abuse under the bike. Or you can find a talented welder who can move your pipe(s) out of harms way-

DSCF1714sss.jpg

Personally I'm quite fond of the feather light super loud Two Bros pipe but it's too loud for many. Another fun option would be to have a local Thai muffler shop rig up a cheap car muffler for the bike. Here's a locally made stainless steel pipe that sounds great, looks tough and is quite cheap... Grrr... It's on the หน้าà¹à¸£à¸ ER-6n site but I'm not finding it now...

Just testing my video making skills, it's a bit basic, but I'm sure some will enjoy

Nice video. TV has changed the way you embed videos. Now you click the "insert media" icon which looks like three Polaroid pictures just above the text window I am typing in now. Then you can get it to look like this:

Nice vid- some brilliant roads up around Loei! I'm headed there next month and look forward to tearing it up!

I've got a three year old too- is yours as much of a bike nut as mine?

Finally got the new no-cut frame sliders for my Ninja 650R!

Ninja650RNoCutSlidersPreSSR.jpg

Just installed them and here's how they look with the fairings off. (Please forgive my dirty bike- how embarrassing biggrin.gif)

Left side:

Ninja650RNoCutSlidersIntall2SSR.jpg

Same side, different angle-

Ninja650RNoCutSlidersIntall3SSR.jpg

Right side:

Ninja650RNoCutSlidersIntall4SSR.jpg

Different view-

Will take some more pics once I get the fairings back on. Installation of the sliders was a breeze- the most time consuming part is taking off the fairings biggrin.gif

Kawasaki Ninja 650R ER6f No Cut Frame Slider Installation Instructions

First step is remove your fairings. This is a bit tricky if you don't have the service manual so I am working on separate instructions to show how to remove the fairings from the 2009-2011 Ninja 650R/ ER6f

Once you have the fairings removed insert the steel cross bar that will connect the left and right side sliders. Be careful not to scratch the crossbar as it's steel and will rust if scratched! (I recommend wrapping it in a small piece of fabric to avoid any scratches.)

Thread the right and left hand sliders on to the steel crossbar.

Once the sliders are attached to the crossbar the next step is to attach the sliders to the frame. You will need to remove the bolts shown in the pictures below and attach the sliders with the supplied bolts and spacers.

Right Side:

JOB DONE! Now reinstall your fairings and you're ready to ride!
