Birthday fact: Did you know that on this day in 79AD Mount Vesuvius erupted causing much death and destruction what with all the hotness and the burning :)

Funnily enough, yeah, I did know that, quite a few things have happened on this day in the past some good, some bad and reading that I have just discovered that I share the same date as Stephen Fry, he is a man with a talent that I have tried to aspire to.

P.S. The day and month of my birth are correct, but I lied about the year...... it's an identity theft prevention thing, I'm a little bit more sprightly than the numbers may suggest.

(here's a reason to continue to celebrate......it IS still your birthday week after all)

Hate to pour cold water on your celebrations, but the Julian calendar was probably in force at that time, as the old buffer had been a century before Vesuvius.

By the time the UK changed to the Gregorian calendar there was a forty-day difference in the synchronisation of years with seasons - so the calendar was adjusted.

Therefore it is likely that the volcano blew it's top ore than a month previous to this date - if one works backwards with an accurate calendar.

Everything prior to the introduction of the current (Gregorian) calendar in history is wrongly dated.

Must have cost your family a fortune in candles. Hope you had a HB. :)
